And why is that? If someone starts a career in any industry, don't you think they no what the hell is going on? If not, they don't need to be in the right seat of a multimillion dollar RJ. Do you honestly believe that someone starting from scratch will be so clueless as not to see what is going on in the industry.
I guess the reason I'm glad Skyhigh shares his side of the industry is because I was one of those who got into the industry without knowing "what the hell is going on". I had no drive or ambition, and I just happened upon aviation as something that might be fun to do. I've learned a lot about the industry since getting into it. I have had a good road so far because I work at a place where I am treated well. I have learned a lot about the state of the industry from this forum. So I am glad that Skyhigh tells his sad story. I'm glad I haven't yet had the same experience, but I don't want him to stop telling his story.

And Skyhigh, I see there's no point in it with you, but just answer this question for me:
If you left, why are you still here? The only logical explanation is that in your heart you wish you were still here. Best of luck, and remember if you're going to continue your preaching about the negatives, a little positive re-enforcement may actually help your cause; otherwise, you're just a bitter old man to the "naive" masses...sorry to be direct like this, but it's the truth. Once again best of luck.

Who says I am tired of it? All I simply said was that flying is just a job - nothing more, nothing less. Some people, yourself included, seem to think that unless you are just giddy and giggly about going to work everyday, then there must be something wrong.

Skyhigh, Alaska is going to hire record numbers this year. Why don't you try again. This time, if you get an interview, change something. Obviously your previous attitude didn't work. Try something else. Alaska love to hire locals. You never know.

And if your mentor flew DC-10s for Delta, I just can't remember Delta having DC-10s. Western had them prior to the merger, but can't seem to recall the DC10 on the property. L1011s, MD11s, even 74's in the early 70s, but the 10. Care to enlighten me.

Here's a perspective for you.
Want a great start on a solid aviation career? Try the military. The military is a all volunteer force, if you have what it takes to get accepted into a flight program you can be assured of great pay, excellent training and the company of other men and women who "live and breathe" aviation. This world is not how much you can afford but how you can perform. The best, the brightest and most motivated are the ones that have the advantage. Each one has the chance to shape their career, whether it's 6 years or 30 years. It's not without complaints and it's not a forgiving career choice, we all lose friends along the way and the separation from family and loved ones is something you can't make up for later. In the end most are highly trained professional pilots that are ready to continue in aviation if they choose, ….or not. Now I know it is way too late for some folks, but a lot of the people who visit this forum are still in a position to make that choice. In the end that's all it is,….the choice we make.

Oops, you got the wrong guy there Skyhigh. I made it out of the MD80 in '95. But would I advise someone to get into this industry? Dunno. Would I discourage someone from this industry? NO. Big difference. Depends on one's background, training, attitude and desire.

In 1970, Delta entered the "wide-body" jet era with the purchase of five Boeing 747s to service its new long-haul high density routes. However, Delta found no need for them and sold them a few years later. Shortly thereafter, Delta leased a small number of DC-10s as a stopgap until its larger order of the new Lockheed L-1011 TriStars could be delivered.

I have to give it to you SkyHigh, nobody can start a (new) thread about the same subject and get the feedback you do.
Anyone wanting to read SkyHigh's opinion on aviation, just look up his past posts form the members list; there are 1550+ and counting. They all pretty much say the same thing and the responses are also very similar. Can't we talk about something interesting like [censored
