Most of us are union. I dont think I have ever known of a white collare worker with a union.
The pilots that work for an airline and dont have a union are chumps. Not that unions are the greatest thing, but do they really think that managment has the same goals that they do? NOPE!
Lower pay + Higher stock price= Managment bonuses.

Pilots think they are White collar workers; however, I believe we are solidly Blue collar.
We are production workers. We just manufacture, ASM's or RTM's. We don't market them, sell them or have any control over them. We just churn them out. Blue Collar.
Generally we're a little better educated and slightly more arrogant but we're Blue collar union workers. Like I said, though, most pilots think we're white collar, high paid, Republicans.

"Now numbering more than six million, unionized professional, technical and administrative support workers comprise nearly half of the AFL-CIO’s membership of 13 million, the federation’s Department for Professional Employees outlined in its recent study, "Rising Tide: Professionals: The New Face of America’s Unions."

A number of professions have varying degrees of unionization. Boeing's aerospace engineers come to mind.
We are in fact white collar workers by virtue of being trained professionals. Professionals by definition are responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and updating their training and licenses, and are ultimately responsible for the outcome of their work (doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc).
Blue collar workers just have to do as they are told...the outcome of their efforts is the responsibility of their employer (look at Ford and GMC...). Note that blue-collar tradesmen who work as sub-contractors are now businessmen and are thus responsible to the customer for their product.
Some aspects of airline work resemble blue-collar work, but that does not change the fact that we are ultimately professionals...and should be paid accordingly.
