Reports are saying they are trying to get it for cheaper jet fuel. Cut out the middle man and also they want to buy the oil from the North Dakota Fields and Canada. The reporters where wondering how they will get it to their refinery though. It is now on CNBC home page as breaking news but does not have an article at this time.

Delta’s [ DEL*60.50* -2.29 (-3.65%) ] potential purchase of the Conoco plant, which the people familiar with the matter say has yet to be finalized, would be a first such deal for an airline.
Great fact based reporting.....since when has delta stock reached $60.50 cents! Maybe we are going to buy dell computing next to help with Crew scheduling and figure out how many years to go without hiring! Or deltic timber corp and all of the planes can burn wood for power! Just joking.

Smart move. That's one way to fight back high jet-A prices. Refine your own and sell the surplus to the competition at a profit. I've always said that the current airline business model needs to morph into a REAL revenue producing enterprise. Similar to Vegas. You'd think that Vegas is in the hotel business to generate their main stream revenue when in reality its the gaming that makes the profits....
Now if we can convince Airways to buy a GAS station.................

Richard Branson considered buying or building a refinery but canned the idea. I live near Delaware and the story is the refinery is up for sale because it needs so much work it wasn't economical to do all the work that was required. Its almost impossible to get a permit to build a new refinery.
