Hey guys- I was just wondering if anyone who flew for Virgin could give me some info about quality of life over there. It seems like it'd be a great place to work!
How long could a new hire expect to be on reserve.. how many days off does a relatively junior FO get.. do they have a commuter clause? How long is the call-out time on reserve? I know there are some other threads regarding Virgin but I'm hoping for some more current information. Thanks!

Wow, first post! We are honored. Pretty good place to work, some good, some bad, but overall pretty decent. Pay still sucks.
How long could a new hire expect to be on reserve..
A long time now, we are about to have a gap in deliveries, movement will be slow for about a year, then 60 deliveries begin late 2013.
how many days off does a relatively junior FO get..
I think reserve is 11 off, could be wrong, I don't do reserve. line holders do much better, but see above.
do they have a commuter clause?
Yes, but not a good one.
How long is the call-out time on reserve?
2 hours. There is going to be a 12 hour reserve, but we are so tight in staffing don't plan on it being useful, most likely 12 hours notice you are going to be on 2 hour callout on your first day.

The older info is still valid. Our new work rules just came out with very few changes.
Thanks!
You are welcome.

Thanks for the info Flinstone. I'm currently in the left seat of a CRJ with about 650 TPIC- hoping to get to my 1000 as quickly as I can and get my application in at Virgin! It sounds like the timing might work out pretty well. I'm currently commuting on reserve, so that doesn't bother me too much. Once again, thanks!

Talking to a current F.O. at VX it looks like about a year on Reserve but he says it is not terrible and you will fly instead of sitting around. All reserve lines are built 5/3 I believe so you will get 10-11 days off a month.
I am hoping they starting interviewing again as I had to bypass the first one because of family issues.

I am the wrong guy to ask about reserve, but if I am understanding your question, no, you will get a line with something like 5 on, 3 off all month long. I do know they start late on day one and try to finish early on day last so in theory commuting is possible without wasting a day off.
Maybe someone with recent reserve experience can help you better than I can, but being at the other end of the list I have no better intel for you, sorry.
Suffice it to say no one here bids reserve on purpose.
