The hardest part has been learning the idiomatic expressions over the years. I studied for 3 years in high school and 2 years in college. Traveling has helped a lot. Learning from day one at home is the only way. You are very lucky! It's a constant battle for me. I've been to Italy and Italian is so similar to Spanish but just not quite the same. I have a hard time with it.
Martin, as young as you are you're way ahead at this point. Just keep at it and you'll be fine.
Take care!

Martin--
Gracias! Estoy feliz que me entendiste. Aprendi el espanol en escuela pero tambien he viajado a colombia, costa rica, y mexico. Dicen "chevere" in Bogota. Me gusto la palabra tanto que lo uso mucho, ja ja.
Yo soy piloto por Southwest Airlines. Empece a SWA hace seis y medio anos. Y tu? Vuelas por Air Canada?
Soy un amigo de uno de los mods, es un hombre muy amable. No pienso que esta molesto con un poco de espanol.
Le pregunto a el cuando nos vemos manana.

hey, I hear air canada is big on french. I know someone who didn't get a job with them because he could not speak french. (or thats wat he told me..don't know what the truth really is. maybe he just bombed his interview) If anything your knowledge of spanish will help you learn another language. Try taking some french classes in university or buy some french language software. Good luck! I hear seneca has a good program.
btw you may want to check out this forum.. www.pprune.org . check out the canada section. Theres probably a bunch of AC guys on there.

As far as I know, knowing french will give you more "points" when they look at your resume, AC likes bilingual applicants. I'm not sure what knowing a language besides french will do for you but it's probably better than nothing.
Seneca looks like a great program, it's a lot of hard work mind you.. 4 solid years with no summers off. About 80 get accepted for the first year and less than half make it to the second. I was going to apply there for next year but I don't have 2nd year physics so I don't qualify (make sure you have it, I think calculus is a must aswell).. so i'm going to do Saults program instead.
Good luck with Seneca!

I know it's hard work.. but if u look at life.. then you know everything is hard work. I've been doing everything since i came, got into high school two weeks after my arrival with no english, was very tough but I save a lot of time and learned faster. I know that I have a tough and long way to go, but I also have an amazing dream and passion which will get me wherever i want to.
I got all the courses, Discreet, Calculus doing it right now, Chem, Physics, English, and Geography. Overall I think I'm good with 83% since they will accept you if u have more than 75%.Anayways thanks and good luck to you too.

the only reason of why i kept on wiriting in english is because i wanted other people in this forum to understand me too. And It was good that Sr.Barco answered me back in spanish, since I understood more and he was very helpful. He kept on wiritng because he wanted to practice i think.. which is good and I liked. But anyways Thanks a lot Sr barco and all the other that commented. I'm here to stay

You got it exactly right. It's so rare for me to write or talk with native speakers (especially from Cuba) that I always take advantage of it. Obviously this self described "hot" mama has never tried to truly learn another language or she would understand. Some people just like to rain on other people's parades I guess.
It sounds like you have a great plan. Glad you're here to stay. Catch up with ya later.
