Hello guys: (first post )

I'm an immigrant from Cuba currently living in Canada since I came 1 year ago. I've been so many times at the air canada web site and a whole bunch of other sites and I've found that AC for example.. only recognizes french as an additional language. So my question is, regardless of whether they accept or no.. would the fact that i speak spanish give me any chance (while working for AC) of flying mainly to spanish speaking countries?

Would there be any advantage for me b/c i speak the language? or am I gonna be given the same chances as everyone else regarding flying to these countries?

Thanks and sorry for my 1 year old english.(I'm still learning)

No help at all if you are looking for a pilot spot. English only on the airways. Now, if you are looking for a job as a flight attendant, Spanish might be of some help(but not much).

Hola Martin--

Bienvenido--

Me entiende?

once again thanks.. and sry mods for this bit of spanish hope u don't mind

Bienvenido Martin,

I fly for a US carrier, but I'm in and out of Mexico and I can tell you that Spanish comes in handy when it comes to situational awareness! It won't help you get the job, nor will it pay you an override, but it will come in handy I promise you. Buena Suerte.

Martin--

Gracias! Dicen "chevere" in Bogota.

Empece a SWA hace seis y medio anos. Y tu?

Ciao!!

S.B.

Sorry guys. Feel free to interject if you disagree.

No I'm not a pilot.. but I'm trying to become one. I've been dreaming about it since I was very young, and still can't get it out of my head :P Pienso entrar al Seneca College aqui en Canada este ano pues es una escuela muy buena y tiene reputacion, aparte de ofrecer un degree in Applied Technology. La verdad es que nada mas que hize llegar a canada and went crazy looking for every single word and aviation term to learn since they sometimes differ in spanish. Words like rudder, aleiron, cockpit, etc where between the first ones. I also met a guy at my school whose dad is currently flying the a340-500 at AC and he kind a teach me a lot and went around the airport with me.. he's still convincing his dad to see if he can get me into the simulator to experience a bit more. This site is awesome and haven't got tired of learning on the knowledge section which i find very well done. Thanks to all for helping the "hopefully..future generation of pilots". Let's only hope for one of you give me my ATPL and the congratulations part..which i keep dreaming about my whole life.

Martin--

Me gusta SWA mucho.

Otra pregunta: Cuantos anos tienes?

Ciao----S.B.

Sr. Barco, you write spanish very well. Now the real question is how do you speak it? I understand that learning a new language is really difficult. I'm fluent in both spanish and english. I was trying to learn Italian but it's really difficult.

Buongiorno, Sr. Barco. Come sta? Bene o male. Io sto bene.

Anyways, learning a second language is hard. ArrivederLa. Means goodbye in italian.

hablas muy bien el espanol, mucho mejor que yo el ingles :P Tengo 18 anos y ahora en noviembre aplico al Seneca College hopefully they accept me...keeping my fingers crossed. Si me aceptan sera para marzo o abril que me haran saber si me aceptaron o no.Antes de ellos aceptarme tengo que hacer el medical test, somemath and physics tests along with an english test (TOEFL) needed for all students who haven't been in Canada for 4 years planning on entering University. So I'll be posting here if i get accepted but probably not on this section for obvious reasons.

favila008 Io sto bene anche :P siete un piloto?
