Age 67???
#32
Has anyone else been hearing this supposed rumor of the FAA raising the retirement age to 67? My captain today said that the majors were lobbying with the FAA to raise it to 67 in order to alleviate their "training burden" that they will have upcoming. I guess since ICAO retirement age is 67 that the US carriers want the same rule.
Here's my thoughts:
1) Please don't raise it and make these guys retire starting Dec 13, 2012
2). If they do raise it, make our FAA physical actually something like running at least a mile on the treadmill in under 10 minutes so they weed out these guys
3). If you are of around the 65 age, you've had an extra 5 years to recover from the stock market/housing problem/multiple divorces. Move on already!
P.S. My captain is only 48, so he's just as upset about this info. I will try to get a name of the lobbyist to verify info

It's sad but this would wipe out a lot more than just over 65s. I see a lot of tubbies walking around. It baffles me how they fit in the cockpit.

Yes. Where does this age 67 non sense come from?
Do people convince themselves that HR departments are scared right now?
By the way, there is no pilot shortage....Delta just shrank total required pilots (considering Delta mainline plus Delta Connection carriers). Don't ya think everyone is going to follow suit? i.e., fewer but bigger RJs.

Age 67 retirement question comes from a Dutch-German lawsuit seeking to overturn any mandatory retirement, a precursor, in my mind. Face it, mandatory retirement has been a contentious issue for decades and not just in aviation. We have 80+ doctors passing judgement on the medical fitness of pilots. I'd give it about 80% odds that there is an increase in the Age 65 rule, especially as Social Security retirement is 66, going to 67 and will be raised again.

ROFL ,why don't we just make it an even 70 and call it a day .
Just another pipedream and besides who the hell wants to be working beyond 65 anyway ?
60 and out on my end and if possible sooner than that.

FWIW, the FAA did some very intense physicals on UAL pilots agred 63-65 to see if they could continue flying. Two of the POI's I talked to confirmed the discussion was taking place at highers levels, and one had heard nothings.
A few class action lawsuits against the law kill summarily kill it. I have heard more than a few rumors about lawsuits as well.

Sorry, but if you lived beyond your means so long that you needed five more years to try and save for retirement, you were sunk long before. Two more years ain't gonna help. If your persona is so wrapped up in what you do that you can't let it go and find a hobby, well then that's a whole other problem.
