International Jumpseats.

Hi All,

I'm planning a trip to Managua, Nicaragua.

Are there special requirements for international jumpseats on DAL and UAL? CAL used to require 24 hour in advance international listing for TSA processing. Do DAL, UAL & AMR have similar requirements?

Thanks.

FWIW, walked up and listed on DAL and UAL and US to MAD about 4 hours before departure. Unless you're eagle, you can't go AMR jumpseat.

FWIW 2, cant sit in DAL jumpseat unless your DAL either. You would get a seat in the back AFTER all nonrevs.

IMO, would be easier to get a ZED fare ticket.

If you're talking about using the jumpseat privilege to occupy a vacant cabin seat, DAL requires 75 minute check in before the go time to be "passport listed" or whatever they're calling it now days.

I'm not sure about CAL, but the times I used them, they had me check in at a service counter. I made sure to do it nice and early, like 2 hours before the go time.

Thanks for the info guys.

Positive Rate what international cockpits have you jumpseated in? Did you flow back on each jumpseat? DAL is a no go.

What about UAL?

Unless it's one of the ACMI carriers that complies with a certain TSA directive, you WON'T be sitting on the ACTUAL JS on a carrier other than your own for international flights.

YES, we ALL know the TSA changed their own policy on occupying the JS for international flights, but by the time they get the "master crew list" thing going, all the software/hardware set up in the foreign locations, it'll be YEARS before we see it.

I would buy a ZED fare ticket for at least the return trip, then try to get the J/S. Also, show up USA outbound at least 60 mins prior for passport check. (check validity vs. expiry date). Upon return to USA I would show at the ticket counter AT LEAST 2 hours prior, as there is usually a massive line at the ticket counter/passport check/ security. If you cant get the JS, you use the ZED ticket. The ZED ticket IS refundable as I've done it before. We just flew GRU-DTW last night, and there was about 50 people in the ticket counter line, 150 people at security and about 200 plus people at passport check. It would take at least an hour and a half to get through that line. FWIW. Enjoy your trip, LA is great!

I flew SFO-FRA on UAL a couple days ago by 'jumpseating.' I checked in at service counter 2.5 hrs early and the agent told me that she couldn't list me until 2 hrs or less before departure.... No big deal, she was very nice and gave me a standby pass no problems. Then, when I got to the gate the agent told me that I wasn't listed on flight even though my name was up on the standby board. I rushed back out to the service counter and after the original agent consulted with somebody with experience working the gate they called down and told the gate that I 'was' listed for the flight. So, back through security where there was a ticket with a seat waiting for me :)

I checked in with the flightdeck and dropped off some treats, they asked if I had been given me an upgrade but I told them that the flight seemed full. I also dropped off some treats with the flight attendants. I sat in an economy seat with no-one next to me. The flight attendants were very nice and made sure I had everything I needed. Everyone was great. Best part is that it cost me zero dollars.

I did buy a couple zeds for my return flight and based on the loads I'm going to try LH MUC-SFO tomorrow. I used kayak dot com to look at seats remaining for my flights; the UAL agent actually recommended that technique.

Good luck on your travels.
