Good grief. I think Boeing probably has a special department just to think up new designations for the latest model of the 737. What are we up to now, about version 12.0? I guess it's good to stick with something that works.

What a horrible airplane to fly those long distances (for the pilots). But it is great news to see the good guys at ak getting some movement.

Yeah that's the issue with the 737 from my perspective. Sad that the 757 was designed with such a better cockpit and now it's a discontinued product and we're back to the 737 cockpit from the -100. I've heard the reason the 737 wasn't upgraded majorly up front was that it would require a new type rating for pilots. I'm not sure I understand this, look at the DC-9 and 717. Same type, WILDLY different cockpit. FAA favoritism?

The Manager in charge of Certification told me ... there is a lot you can push past the FAA at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon in Southern California.

I'm sure the MAX will be better still. As much as I wish the order had been for 787s, I am happy I will end my career flying new airplanes. |

Depends on your perspective. I've never flown the 757/767, would sure love to, but the newer 737-800 cockpits are much quieter than the -400 or older -700, -900s that we still fly. The overhead windows are gone, The standby attitude/flight instruments are gone, replaced by a video screen without the noisy vibrator, the rain wipers are quiet and the A/C fans are much quieter. I'm very happy to take off my headset for those long cruise portions of cross country or trans pacific flights.

You ever ridden in one of our newer 321's ? They might be dogs but quiet as a living room with about as much square footage, oh and lay flat seats with no yoke to cramp your style. Working the airbus is much less stressful and tiring due to nvh alone. Anyway, congrats on the new jets, y'all have always treated us west guys like gold.
