Delta Jumpseat

Delta Jumpseat
I rarely jumpseat offline but had quite the pleasant experience today on Delta and just wanted to say thanks.
I showed up at the gate in ATL looking for a ride to Sarasota. There was a Delta FO already getting a jumpseat pass at the counter and there was a list of people on standby.
It didn't look good but I asked the gate agent anyway what he thought. He told me the jumpseat was taken and there was no way I was riding on that flight. Fair enough. I left the gate to seek another option. As I was leaving, the FO (Dan) stopped me and said to stick around for a few mins. He offered to ride in the flight attendant seat if it was available and he would give up the jumpseat. He then talked to a different gate agent and worked out some details. There ended up being seats in the back for both of us, but I thought his offer to give up his jumpseat and ride in the flight attendant seat was above and beyond. As we were boarding, the gate agents were requiring all roller bags to be gate checked and Dan gave me a Delta crew luggage tag and then carried both my bag and his out of the jetway and down to the crew baggage area. Again, definitely above and beyond. So a big thanks to Dan for his help, to the gate agent who worked with him and to the operating crew for a great flight.

Great story. DL crews are some of the best and most accommodating.
I've had numerous times that a DL jumpseater has ridden the FA jump on the way to SEA from ATL. I know it's an awful ride, but those of us that are offline always appreciate it!

Ugh, I was one of those guys. That aft FA Jumpseat on a 757 is no fun. Can't complain about a free ride though. I made an AirTran guy happy. You get to hear all sorts of gossip chillin in the aft galley too! Commuting sucks and I was just visiting family so I kinda felt obligated to help the guy out. Most every airline I've jumped on has been equally accommodating. I've even had a Fed take a later flight so I could get home. I went out of my way to thank his boss a few weeks later. She was really surprised that a pilot showed up at the FSDO to thank them. Not something pilots do.....thank Feds. Lol.

I think it was about a year and a half ago I was flying between SLC and MSP. We had a completely full flight and three jumpseaters. One was DAL and the others were SKYW. The Delta pilot courteously rode a flight attendant jumpseat so both the SKYW could get on.
That particular Delta pilot is a super senior dude...like darn close to two digit systemwide seniority. I thought he did an outstanding job of setting the example of professionalism and leadership for two relatively new pilots. He is a class act.

I also have positive experiences with Delta. Two personal trips ago with no overhead space left and sitting in the jumpseat, the FO said to take his spot from my bag and he would take his down below. I told him that he didn't have to and he said he had to go walk-around anyway so he'd just get it back on the other end.
My last trip first class as well. Delta has become my airline of choice when heading to a certain destination to visit family. The agents and the crews are always very helpful and go out of their way to make me feel welcome. Now if only my own airline were so UNITED in that philosophy.
