When I was hired at a legacy back in the late 80's, most of them were hiring at least 60 a month with my airline at almost 90! This went on for some time so I'd say back then there were about 1000 month getting hired. It was a feeding frenzy!! I was hired by several but chose the best for me at the time.
As some have said, the ONLY issue really from leaving any current employment is the "what if" scenario of say oil skyrocketing due to more middle east turmoil or some other external influence they have no control over. The US airline industry always seems to be on thin ice and almost collapses at world events in a much more sensitive way than some other countries aviation system. K |
What does Spirit do for me? Well I got hired 6 years ago. Seniority is upper 300's out of 900. Growing rapidly, 22 new hires a month. Seniority keeps going up. I'm making 150k+ a year. Building a nice company matched 401k. Not getting furloughed, if I do it's too late for us anyhow. I Jumpseated on UAL a couple weeks ago. They were asking about the strike and our contract, while my greedy tail doesn't like the whole thing, there is some great things in there. They were pretty surprised. All they said was that's awesome, we have this and it sucks. So I will stay at lowly spirit, and will be reunited will Bill Franke in 5 years when he sells Frontier. You can't put a price tag on quality of life, well I don't. I will leave the 777 to you guys and just chill in my 320.

Walk…
I wouldn't call Spirit lowly at all!! I've read you all have some of the nicest quality of life pieces in your contract compared to the majors. Lots to be said for that. I used to not put much of a premium on that aspect of a contract but now I do after having flown in the middle east slave mentality conditions for so long. Kap |

Seriously though, we will retire about 60 and grow somewhat so I'm hoping for closer to 100. |

UPDATE:
USAA: 600 Frontier: 200ish So, as far as we can tell from plans, around 3500 will be hired...good, but not great...the last major hiring boom I remember is 2007...anyone know the approximate # hired at that time? US - 300 Net 900. |
