I'm a south guy and based on the current numbers could hold the 744 if there was no fence. If Delta decides to move the 744 to ATL, I really, really, hope they do it before the fence drops on Jan 1, 2015. IMO the north guys would justifiably be ****ed if the move happened shortly after that date.

On the other side, I read in the latest Crew Resources Newsletter that Delta is considering a NYC A330 base bid next fall. Yuck!

The NYC guys would love that, but where will that A330 time come from? The new ones aren't due to arrive until 2015, they've already announced international growth in SEA, not NYC.

And if the 747 did come to ATL, it might become more senior than it is today in DTW, there are a lot of senior guys commuting from Florida who would bid it, so just because your number will hold it in DTW today, it may not hold it in ATL tomorrow.

I agree the 744 would go more senior if moved to ATL.

No doubt the NYC A330 time would be "funded" by DTW and ATL. Say goodbye to our 6 day trips with a JFK layover in the middle. I think an A330 base in NYC makes sense for the company, but it sucks for yours truly. And it is all about me.

Unless they completely change their strategery of deploying the whale, there is notta freaking chance it's coming to Mecca.

I too cringed at the thought of a 330 base in NYC. I'd finally be able to hold the 330 but I'll be farther away from holding it in a place I want to be...

The 330's got the best International trips out of ATL, I'll bet it would get the best destinations out of NYC as well.

When it was first announced it was coming to ATL they were calling it "The African Queen", turns out it's going to Europe and HNL quite a bit more than Africa! A lot of ATL 777 guys are talking about jumping on it if/when they move any more ATL 777 time to DTW, me included.

Too bad DALPA pizzed away that great rest facility, that's about the only thing keeping me off it....for now.

I just did my Q4CQ CD, now I know how important getting good rest is. Funny they never mentioned losing that A330 rest facility!

Nobody who gets displaced off the 7ER will be senior enough to hold the 777 or 744. The displacements will come from the bottom and any VD's have to use the seniority of the junior displacing pilot to enter a new fleet.

The big problem with be if they open an ATL base once the fence comes down. Some of the guys that currently fly the whale may not be able to hold it any more. New categories everyone bids with their seniority.

Why would that be a problem? Wasn't that the whole reason for only using 5 year fences - so that everyone could bid what their seniority could hold?

I didn't say it would be a problem other than having to hear the *****ing for the rest of my career. There are already rumors running around that the company is holding off big bids or new bases for the whale until the fence comes down. Then again there are always people out there stirring the pot because they got hosed in the merger.

I'm not sure it would be a good thing for New York to get the 330, if it comes from elsewhere. The 765 didn't do us any good. The reason is that planes that pay at that rate are just too good for people not to follow. When the 765 closed much of ATL, the pilots came with, or displaced to the ATL 7ER, and those guys came over. True, a few senior guys in New York were able to move to the 765, to be backfilled by ATL &ER displacements.

The net effect of a high-paying airplane in a junior base is that a few guys get a higher payrate. That's about it.

If they open a new NB category, then that's another story.
