jetBlue April 8th interview

There. I'll start the thread. Good to meet many of you at the interview today. I realize it is going to be a week or two, but if/when you hear something please post and I'll do the same.

Ted Striker 04-08-2014 05:15 PM

Ha I knew this was going to pop up sooner or later. Will do. Great bunch of guys today.

24601 04-09-2014 06:36 AM

congrats on the interview, how long ago did they call you for it?

JetDriver121 04-09-2014 12:40 PM

Congrats all, I interviewed 3/11 and got the phase 2 email the 21st. The wait is the worst.

I got an email invite to the interview a few weeks ago (no phone call) - but from another thread it sounds like maybe they are making initial phone calls again (?).

P-3Bubba 04-10-2014 05:30 PM

Cograts on the interviews. Remember, when you get your ID Badge, VOTE NO!

Tom a Hawk 04-10-2014 05:34 PM

P3,

Anyone completing IOE after January 31st cannot vote. So by the end of the union vote roughly 150 people will be employees with no say in it. More than 5 percent.

Tony Clifton 04-14-2014 05:36 AM

I'm thinking we will hear something by (on?) Friday of this week. Seems like the last few interview groups have heard right around the 10 day mark.

Make sure your email alerts are turned on and best of luck to all.

Cough... Douchbag... Cough...

Sad that you don't even know how the process works.

Well said. Based on my observation of the applicants, Im going to guess 90% are pro-union, and I think most people realize they have a lot to lose over the course of a 30-yr "at will" career. Obviously its speculation.

Food for thought for the new hires: the a321 is coming. Based on FOQA data, JetBlue would have had 4 tail strikes based on the way the current fleet is being flown. That's 8 terminations (4 ca, 4 fo) with a really hard time finding a new job. As far as I know, the rest of the legacies have had multiple tailstrikes in their a321 and 737-800/900 aircraft, and even some 757 models, and none have been terminated, just re-trained in the sim. Its your job. Protect it.

Ted Striker 04-15-2014 05:27 AM

Is jb short staffed right now? How does summer staffing look?

Tony Clifton 04-18-2014 07:31 AM

Today is 10 days. Perhaps we will hear something rather than have to wait until Monday.

How is the current fleet being flown?
I am being very civil about this, but how do you know all this if you don't work here?

I do my research. 4 tail strikes is an incredibly low percentage, that's actually a praise not a critiscism. jb is the best airbus operator out there.

Trob 04-18-2014 09:17 AM

And if you fly the 321 like the 172, you're going to have even bigger issues, based on my studies of the 172 FOQUA data. Just pulling your chain. Every aircraft has different characteristics, keep them in mind.
I gotta agree though, if I have an incident, I'd feel quite a bit better having ALPA in my corner.

Your incident coverage at jb will vary depending on if you are the "right" pilot or the "wrong" pilot.... Ymmv

Bottom line, the lawyers that jetblue provides you, you may even get to choose your lawer... Are still paid by jetblue. Your best interest may be kept in mind.

Trob 04-18-2014 09:24 AM

Yeah, I know... Thankfully not from first hand experience.
No Bueno.
5 days!

I guess you do dig deep into a company.
Interesting stuff.
Don't tell are mainline pilots this we don't want them getting bigger heads :)

Ted Striker 04-18-2014 10:47 AM

haha. I like JB, some of the greatest guys ive met fly for them and love it there, and the product is incredible. Im excited the ALPA vote is looking like its gonna pass, you guys are gonna be a future SWA or better. If you guys get the A330, which it appears you will, you could potentially be a giant.

Congrats Ted!!!

Where do we appear to get 330s from? I want what you're smoking!

Believe me, I'd love to see it, but it doesn't appear to me that we are getting any wide bodies anytime soon.

Oh oh! Careful with that. Gloopy will be here shortly to rain on that parade.

"if you guys get the A330, which it appears you will" ... could mean 5 years down the road. Its not like its coming tomorrow :)

My money goes on the A350 :)

We don't need 330's fo gloopy to do that, we will be dead soon anyway if he has his way.

Yeah I can see it at some point but not anytime soon
We need to get our stuff together before we start playing with big planes.

LOL,
That's like saying,

" looks like I'm gonna get laid"

When you're in a bar. When you don't and your buds give you a hard time you say, well I didn't mean tonight.:D

Hahahaha. That never happens ;) I think if you guys didn't believe you would get widebodies in the near future, you'd all have your apps in to go somewhere else because you know it would mean merge or die. The big 3 legacies will be able to price you out of the market because where they can take big losses domestically, they drastically cover those losses and then some with lucrative int'l flying. You guys might wanna check out the case study of SWA in PHL when they tried to come in and go to war with USair. They got their butts royally handed to them. Why? US was able to go toe to toe in the domestic market, because they hedged it all with their European flying. Take notes, you guys need to grow int'l and I know that you guys know that. A330, A350, A3widesomething. It has to come.

Corbs 05-03-2014 06:04 AM

I don't know why, but this thread makes me laugh! I was in the AM group on the 8th. Also in Phase 2. Happy waiting! The Sterling rep I've been in contact with has actually been quite helpful in explaining the process on their end. Not like there's too much more to know or anything - but hey... An occasional update / point of contact makes waiting less painful. Is JB planning a June class?

Tony Clifton 05-03-2014 07:56 AM

Hey Corbs,

I hear there is a June 18th class - but I guess there are people from Feb interviews still waiting for a class date. I think we may be looking as late as August. (?)

That's an interesting perspective. From the angle I'm looking at, things didn't work out so well for USair. SWA is doing just fine. USair went into bankruptcy (again) and had to merge with America West to keep from going out completely. I'm not trying to be antagonistic. I'm just offering a different view of events. Just my two cents. Take it or leave it.

You don't need widebodies to grow international. JetBlue's growth is mostly international at this point. Lima, Colombia, ect.. They are doing fine with the A320/321. Don't get me wrong I would love to see A330's or A350's at JetBlue. I was in the March 11th interview group. During the Q&A with the chief pilots someone asked about flying to Europe and the answer was that it was not going to happen because there was no money to be made.

Ted Striker 05-05-2014 10:54 AM

Does anyone know what interview dates they are currently calling for classes?

Careful listening to anything that comes from a "chief pilot". Jetblue hired assistants to the chief pilots(who are first officers that have been here 4 years or less) instead of hiring actual captains and these first officers introduce themselves as "chief pilots" at interviews.

These people and their information are not what you want to be basing your future decisions on.
