Quote: Every FO should wear a hat so that they may salute their Captains properly.

Nothing looks more ridiculous than saluting without a hat on - unless it's saluting without a hat on with a cup of Starbucks in your saluting hand!
Now that's funny.

Yes. They should also not be allowed to breath or sneeze near passengers. What a stupid comment

If that is so, why aren't more airline types getting the call from Hollywood?

Quote: It's true. I wear pajamas to work. I've been spoiled by it too... but they're at least functional. I've got steel toed boots, a pocket for notebooks and checklists, a pocket for my leatherman, a pocket for my flashlight, spots for 2 pens, a pocket for my car keys, one for my wallet and cover, one for my cell phone, one for my sunglasses, and one for my passport and the little cloth to clean my sunglasses. If I had a butt-flap, it would be the perfect pilot onesie.
The bag was nice of course, but during my days you couldn't wear it through the gate; and I seem to remember wearing choker whites on occasion too...what was the purpose of that crazy neck thing on the chokers?...if you answered "tradition and appearance" well now we are on to something!

Quote: simple... Everyone agreed to follow the SOPs within their manual system when joining their respective carriers. Review the section in the uniform standards section contained in your company's respective FOM, CAM, COM.... whatever. Some carriers frown on deviations from said manuals... how about your company. The survey should have included the company's opinion on not following airline policy.
Exactly, end of story...you wear the uniform that you agreed to wear by taking the job. Very simple!

I think it was originally to protect against sword cuts, as were epaulets.
