Default Question on American Recalling Pilots

I spoke with an American captain the other day. He told me he had heard it took 80-90 phone calls to get 10 people to come back. I figured many people would want to move on with their lives and wouldn't return. I have no reason to doubt the person I spoke to about it, but am simply curious.

So, you people with the experience to know- does that sound like a reasonable ratio given the time American has had these pilots on furlough?

Of those 80-90, over 60 were Furlough-In-Stead. When AA furloughed it offered people with higher seniority to take a furlough and let a junior guy stay on the property. Presumably the folks who took a voluntary furlough out of seniority have something better going on and are in no hurry to get back to AMR.

The next classes should have a lot of the Eagle flowbacks, and I don't think ANY of them will bypass!

I think 1 in 8 is probably a good average for any furlough recall to a major these days. I believe that's about what they're getting at US too (of course the 190 is part of the reason). That's why Delta got through theirs so quick, and United will soon follow. NW will too because they will start to recall for Compass.

So how many are eagle flowbacks? Is it several hundred? If so, and if they MUST come back on the first call, then this list could take 5-10 years!!

Starting with the March class recalls are 20/month.

Heard that and also that they've called 130 so far with 5 accepts for March (3 flowbacks). So 25ish of 130ish have accepted so far I guess. That's about 1 in 5 or if you discount the top 60 (?) voluntary in-steads it's about 1 in 3.

BCDurbin:

Just to set the record straight, NWA is NOT recalling any mainline pilots to Compass. NWA should be through their entire list of furloughees by February or March. NWA furloughees have the option to accept a position at Compass if they CHOOSE to. They are not forced to go to Compass.

Friend in flight admin told me "off the record" that we would be hiring by the end of 2007.

I just pass it along...

About 2000 pilots would have to bypass for that to happen.... AND the co would have to "go back up the list" and offer a final offer... all in the space of one year? Highly doubtful.

However, I do think we'll be hiring by 2009 or 2010.

Again, I just pass it along. But a lot of guys are not coming back. I agree more with end of 2008. I think 2009 is pessimistic, unless APA has a sea-change in the next election and grows a set. Then, it could get into a hostage situation with the company holding the jobs back to apply leverage.
