Default LGA Employee Parking; Not for $$ Cars

I have been flying out of LGA almost exclusively for just two months. But in that short time my poor new VW has received multiple door dings. Not those innocent little paint scuffs that can be touched up or buffed out, but serious dents. Yes I park between the lines (in the portion of the lot that has them). Could it be the bright red paint? Or the Jersey plates? Or that New Yorkers just don't give a SH**? Whichever, my recommendation is that if you have a decent set of wheels, park in LTP and expense it.

Best advice? Buy yourself a running PoS.

My understanding is that the citizens of New York City, and its surrounding areas, generally lease new cars rather than buy them outright. I do know that in PA anyone buying a CPO is wise to make sure that the car is not a NYC car being dumped out of area.

In short they just don’t care, and probably assume that you don’t either.

And make sure that your insurance is adequate; with a quality company and that all of your ducks are in a row. Do not leave anything in the car that would be a major problem if stolen.

Strap a game-camera to your headrest.

Seriously? First off, returning a car off lease with dents and dings (even small ones) costs you money, so there goes THAT theory. Secondly, "they just don't care".....ignorant generalization.

Minor dents and scratches are not an issue if you are taking up another lease from the same brand.

As for "they just don't care", I have been driving in and out of JFK for 15 years. I stand by my statement. I am sure that there are people in the NYC area who care about their cars, and I suspect that every one of them is on meds due to stress.

New Yorkers = Ding Magnets.

My 1999 F-250. ONE door ding. It's old, rusting out, and generally a POS cosmetically, but door dings aren't a problem it's had.

My wife's 2013 4Runner. More than I care to know. Like it had 5 in the first week we owned it. As if people intentionally whacked it with their doors as if they were ****ed off about something.

Forgot to add. Wife is a Noo Yawker.

I'm not.

Oh then you know more than me a born, raised and still NYC resident who's parked for 7 years at both jfk and ewr. And no, I'm not on any meds....

True on both accounts. But they will lock you into another lease under the guide that they will not charge you for the current dings. So you kind of get caught in a spiral.

Having been born and raised in New York City, I will opine that "they just don't care" is pretty relevant. You don't see many ding-free cars driving around anywhere in the entire city.

Either that, or they probably saw your car and thought they were doing you a favor by adding the dings that it was so sorely missing compared to every other New Yorker's car.
