You really can't forecast more than a year or so. TWA had 3-year, 24 year old captains.... How dat work out?

Well, I'm guessing that they're prolly 36-ish year old Captains at American now, so, pretty good? I guess?

Oh good! I was starting to think we all had stockholm syndrome or were just unhire-able at any other airline.

Believe it or not there are actually people who have left the "Big 4" to work for Alaska. Guys who were practicing doctors and lawyers, too. Plenty of people have turned down UPS/FedEx for Alaska as well. I know several young guys out there who could be working at other big airlines who are just waiting for that elusive Alaska interview.

On top of that there's a whole bunch of guys out there enjoying lucrative retirements after 30+ years of AS service. To say Alaska is a "stepping stone" is erroneous. Sure there are ex-AS guys flying for Delta now, but they had the misfortune to get caught in a 3 year furlough. No one criticizes them for doing what they had to do even though they are/were sorely missed.

Eastern, TWA, National and Pan Am were "too big to fail" too. You never know if you made the right career decision until you retire. Even then retired UAL and DAL guys got a nasty surprise when their pensions were gutted in Bankruptcy Court.

Need all the advice I can get for applying to the Major .
I'm an American citizen with FAA CPL Instrum Multi + citation rating. But, I have a foreign ATPL with foreign 121 air carrier narrow & wide body mostly SIC 4000+ jet hrs. My last flight was in 2007 when I got qualified for foreign 121 B737 PIC in Sim & A/C checkride, but the airline went bankrupt so then I came back home to the US, but no luck with the flying job since it is extremely competitive here and I don't have FAA ATP nor written.
After suffering 7 years of flying itch, due to non-flying job, I've had it!
I must go back to flying again, because it is in my blood.
I need real advices on the following:

Q. Should I
a. just get an ATP written? (with CTP ATP . I missed the Aug 1st ATP written deadline)
b. get an FAA ATP with either B737 or A320 type rating?
c. get hired at regional and let them provide ATP + type rating?
Specifically to your question. The answer is "C". A regional is probably the only way you are going to afford to get current and the regionals are desperate enough now to hire someone who hasn't flown in 7 years. Get 500 more hours and you'll be back in the hunt, but right now none of the big boys will give you the time of day.
