Damn Gloopy! Well written arguments. Thanks for taking the time to take me apart! You're right and I stand corrected sir. Case closed. Honestly! I love it when I realize how stupid I am - keeps me humble. But why didn't I think of all that stuff?

That's one way to pop chaff I suppose.

I never said you were "stupid", not even close. I just strongly disagreed with your vision of the year-medium term future and I explained why.

Sorry that you took it personally. I guess.

no, no, no, I'm sorry you missed the tone in my post. I honestly enjoyed what you wrote, and I mean it when I say realizing the limits in my intelligence is a positive experience. (I called myself stupid, you didn't!) I enjoy being enlightened by knowledge, and enjoy having my assertions challenged. Thats what I was trying to say, text just didn't convey my tone. I honestly do agree with what you wrote - I think you successfully debunked my position 100%.

It's the ATC system that keeps two pilots around. Until that is replaced, then it will require two pilots. The aircraft technology is absolutely there for single pilot.

There is one technology I know of that would safely allow a pilot-less aircraft, and it's a hell of a long way off. It also brings up the question of what is ethical in bio-technical design.

The technology is essentially the same for 1 no pilot ops. This isn't a Citation where no one cares if some Fortune 5000 mid level VP gets augered in. 1 or no pilot ops would both require total and complete automation at a level exponentially greater than merely remote control of existing autopilots/FMS. Not only that, but the cross check error trapping environment of 2 pilot ops is something that vastly transcends the issue of the ATC interface.

The tech is there. The tech has been there for 2+ generations. The cost to do it at current safety/redundancy levels isn't even remotely close.

That said we'll probably see a 10,000 pilot displacement bid tomorrow to announce the new Predator-900 widebody.

A pretty stunningly large amount actually.

Don't have access anymore and my google fu isn't good enough to find the current stats. But for years the rate was crazy. Or maybe it wasn't crazy, as no lives were lost. They aren't cheap....unless you compare to any manned aircraft.

I have no idea what will happen with unmanned airliners. And I don't worry about it in the slightest, I have no control over it so why sweat? There are other things worth worrying about.

A half a dozen MQ-1/9s crash a year, mostly from lost link. And the F-35 has voice recce, but is sucks, and Siri is much better.

Default Hackers?

Unmanned commercial flights: A Hackers Paradise

Passenger: I paid for a ticket to Seattle, we are in Boise!!???
Airline: Er, sorry sir..we got hacked...AGAIN...third one today.

I am no expert, but I would bet if you asked any exec from Sony Pictures if they would fly on an unmanned airliner, they would probably...DECLINE!
