I work for Spirit. My experience here has been great. In the short time I've been here the pilot group has doubled in size with a lot more growth on the horizon. I am hoping for a great contract in the near future as well.
It does seem that a lot of our pilots get defensive on these boards though and I'm not sure why that is. When I travel back home for the holidays my wife and I use JetBlue because they serve the Northeast with greater frequency and more variety than Spirit. As much as I love WORKING at Spirit, I think the product offered by JetBlue is vastly superior. People who fly JetBlue generally love the product and I can see why.... The gate agents and flight attendants are very friendly, you don't get the feeling of being nickeled and dimed the entire time, and you don't feel like the airline sees you as a walking dollar sign to be taken advantage of.
Yes, I understand the Spirit business model and I understand how much money we make, but it still worries me how negatively we are perceived by the flying public. You can only make so many people angry before there aren't any people left that will take a chance on you. I wish we didn't have such an adversarial relationship with the customer here. You can throw all the numbers and statistics out there you want but most of my family and friends won't fly Spirit regardless of the price, and they are well educated on the business model! That goes for people I meet on overnights or on the employee bus or anywhere really. Who do you fly for? Spirit. Ohh... No offense but I'll never fly them again. I flew them once and....
That's how the conversation goes 90 percent of the time.
The flights are full at 60 airplanes, but 160? 260? Not sure.
If I were the OP and had my pick between the three airlines I would choose American. The retirement and pay at the legacies are better. Not sure his age but do the math out to 65, just in the retirement alone. That's a lot of money to leave on the table compared to our 9 percent match.... Throw in the fact that you would live in base and it's a no brainer.

Thanks for the lesson...I am aware of how it works...7.5 years at an ALPA carrier before going to blue.

I can't tell you 98 percent of the time in convo people oh my I love JetBlue blah blah blah .... Minus when I visit the west coast as we don't have much presence there .
No when Spirit comes up in convo I never once heard the same response not one single time ...
I feel yes both are transportation sure, but to say the same product is a stretch ...

Don't forget to check the box where it has "space shuttle" as a type rating, lol.
As far as people being ****ed off, I really haven't seen it. Most people are very thankful and if they are unhappy, usually the good price is enough to make up for it.
American would be great, as well as Dal, UAl, SWA ETC,but a lot of folks won't get the call and a lot that do, don't make it past interview. Never hurts to have multiple options
and in that case, Spirit & Jetblue are both great options.
Just talked to a guy who left Delta for AA, Could you imagine that? OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!! Fortunately, all of us will have many options if we both go under

It is what it is and yes spirit pay rates were used in our updated peer set to kill our pay raise. Nobody said everything is great at blue and a 70% yes vote makes that very clear. I am sure we we will want some things you have in your CBA why wouldn't we? Nobody is bashing spirit pilots and if you read some of my other posts I and the JetBlue pilots have a large amount of respect for a pilot group that told managment to pound sand so you can relax.
