Default Question for NWA folks

I understand that most NWA pilots on furlough are being recalled. I also understand that Compass is going to finally take shape.

Are the recalled pilots all going back to NWA mainline? What is the deal with Compass? Will they be ALPA with NWA seniority numbers or is it a kind of 'alter ego' company? Is there backflow? Flowthrough? What's the scoop? When all furloughed NWA pilots are recalled, will NWA and Compass be hiring?

This question is meant in the best spirit. I have some interest in NWA for the future because of where I would like to live someday (without commuting) but am somewhat concerned about Compass and how they are viewed by NWA pilots.

I know it is still a bit murky, but if someone can shed a bit of light here it would be appreciated. Thanks!

All furloughed NWA pilots will be recalled to Mainline. They will have the opportunity to go to Compass as a Captain at 2nd year pay if they choose. Compass pilots will be hired off the street to Compass as will any future hiring at NWA will go to NWA. I do not think there is any flow agreements at this time. I believe I am correct on this but please correct me if I am wrong.

I did see a job posting on Avianation for Compass Simulator instructors so I guess NWA is moving forward with this

Flow through agreements are generally bad. I agree. It was only a question to find out what the situation really is. But if there really is an honest seniority number at a mainline, rather than just an 'agreement' for flow through it would be a bit better.

Thanks for the answer. I am from the Midwest and have lived in MSP and for that reason NWA interests me because I would like to live there again and don't like commuting.

Take a look at Sun Country. They are planning on hiring 70+ in 2007. 737-800s, growth in 2007 and MSP domicile. Champion is also here, although Champion is under the finger of NWA since a large portion of their business is MLT vacations which is owned by NWA.

Recalled furloughees have a choice if you want to go to Compass. I got a letter this week asking me to respond as to whether I'd be interested in going to Compass vice mainline. The letter stated that even if I said I was interested in Compass, I wouldn't be locked into anything just because I responded one way or the other. You don't have to make your final decision until you actually get recalled.

While I was tempted to rub the letter all over my sack and crack before returing it to NWA/Compass, I elected to do the mature thing and simply toss it in the trash instead.
