This airline is completely understaffed. Only 6 pilots per week can get vacation during the summer. At 12 plus years I can almost never drop a trip. IROPS? The operation comes apart at the seams when the first snow flake or drop of rain falls. The company needs to utilize the reserves more efficiently. It's not just about reserve staffing, if the trips paid more open time would be non-existent.

Whether or not the reserves fly is a function of whether or not line-holders call in sick or get trip modified. If reserves are normally flying all the time, then that would be indicative of extreme understaffing, like what is happening at many regionals. Who knows, we might see that yet here, with us falling so far behind the big boys and girls.

We aren't a regional, but you bet that Blue is understaffed. Bid divisors in the 80s means understaffed. If the line guarantee is 70, you should easily be able to bid 70. Not 82, not 85, for d**m sure not 87.

Our vacation availability sucks. Why? Understaffing.

When the reserve grid shows many days at black or red, that means understaffing.

The reason why the reserves aren't flying is because our PTO allocation is so paltry that pilots, especially FOs, can't afford to call in sick.

I don't know. 320 FO RSV in JFK and flying quite a bit.

I'll sit for days on reserve doing nothing and then on the last day, be run to 16hrs until late in the day, eliminating the possibility of getting home.

It was a comparison between Union pilots vs non-union pilots. That's it. Everyone can zip their pants up now.

And it's not even true anyway. Not for all the regionals at least. AWAC and xjt have better pay AND work rules than Skywest (horizon probably does as well). The person that said that Skywest just gets what others get is partially right. They get enough to keep them non-Union and just above average. Well now with many regionals taking concessions, the lower tier regionals are moving down. Skywest does have a me too clause for the xjt negotiations. So that's proof right there that that's what their management does in order to keep them non-Union. Regardless, they're pay is a lot less than 1.9% than what the top tier regionals make. And their work rules lag even more. At xjt, some work rules are better than at some majors!

Anyway, here is hoping you guys get SWA scope, a B fund, 25% or less in health insurance cost sharing, better sick and vacation accrual, an OJI bank, an LTD that pays out until age 65, good rigs, good commuter, sick call, and fatigue clauses, and some pay raises. Good luck!

You think people complain about working 12-15 days straight over holidays because it's not important to them? Or guys with 12 years senority getting crappy schedules? PBS language and bidding procedures and perimeters are not something to take lightly or be called not important IMO.
I do think bidding and scheduling language is a big deal. I just think that anyone who bids a week of vacation should get that credit in pbs and whatever the system can build them is fine. It's in seniority order and available to anyone.

Looking at their pay rates, here are some numbers I came up with. Any current JB pilot feel free to trump.
3rd year a320 FO: 106K
7 year a320 FO: 128K
11 year a320 FO: 139k
Those numbers are 75 hours a month, and selling back 9 hours of PTO a month.

I believe they call that being a FNG. Senority will fix that.
