Delta will never out do Alaska in Seattle for domestic service. All it will take is one ride on Delta domestic for Alaska people to stay with Alaska.

Is that really true, I felt they were exactly the same.

The one thing I think is obvious is things won't be the same, but what if they're not even necessarily going after the same customers?

Ill make a $0 bet that Delta isn't going to Seattle for domestic and vacation travelers. This is about Asia. This whole thing started as the NRT situation changed. Later, it really got bloody after a public rift developed here between the pilots and to a lesser extent between the CEO's of the two companies.

Imho i think this is all about margin (in good and bad economies) and hvcs- not volume. The Asian economies could tank and there will still be hvcs to win.

A leisure passenger will pick the air line with the fare that is $5 cheaper.

As someone traveling for business, I'm going to pick the air line with the most destinations for my frequent flyer miles.

Not rocket science. It's all about me. IOW the pax will do what is thier best interest. Customer service is not a player.

When Delta was a truly bad airline after years of horrid CEO's we dropped as low as 85% of the industry average per ticket. Currently on domestic flights we are pulling in 117% of the average fares. We are also running a great airline. I think you can generate a revenue premium with a great operation.

Just a point of clarification. It's not miles anymore, it's dollars. Spend more, get more.

And I guess with your last sentence you are saying that having hot young flight attendants doesn't do anything for the bottom line?
