Default Direct to Mainline??

Can going directly to the majors, without having to go through the regionals, happen in today's market and if so how? I am currently doing some contract work while looking for another job and I am really struggling with the thought of taking a 50% pay cut to go the regionals. I have a job offer to fly cargo single pilot in a 1900. I also am getting ready to interview at a few of the regionals. I am not necessarily looking for the quickest rout there, though the faster the better, I am looking for a route that wont leave me broke.

Thoughts or suggestions either way are much appreciated. I understand that having prior 121 experience is probably prefered over single pilot 135, but is it the only way.

Thanks!

When US Airways was hiring they hired about 1/3 commuter, 1/3 corporate/freight/135, and 1/3 military.

Most of the big name carriers generally are now hiring commuter check airman and military IP's. On the first page of AA's app it asks if you have been an astronaut or fighter pilot as check boxes...

Yes it's possible but another big thing with moving on is networking and knowing people. You won't find many in that world moving on, limiting your connections.

Friend got hired at UAL a year ago. Had 1000+ TPIC time 135/91, albeit it was a multi-crew airplane (Lear). And 1 internal rec.
