Probably has more to do with southwest airlines.

What a pile of *** and total cop out for Boeing not updating this antiquated and obsolete design. And shame on the airlines for not allowing technology to advance the design. To think this model will continue for another 20 years is beyond comprehension. I can't stand riding on these transcon. Next we will see them crossing the pond.

Beyond comprehension?

How about business 101?

When Airbus announced the NEO, Boeing had little choice but to push something to market asap. A clean sheet design would take nearly a decade, meanwhile everyone buys the NEO.

Did you guys honestly expect them to not do something until a new narrow body could be developed?

At the end of the day one will be flying an old proven airframe with the same crappy seats and crappy cockpit. The concept has worked for Boeing for many years generating a gazillion bazookums. That said why change a proven concept to accommodate Us slug drivers? Oh wait... we aren't the customers are we....

But hey on the positive side it has gee wiz googoophonics that will keep the children amused for at least a three day trip.

I'm not sure what all the haters were expecting. It's a 737, only the best selling commercial aircraft in history on its (hopefully) last revamp. Is that overhead panel really that daunting for some people?

Not really... It's a 1955 cockpit which lacks ergonomic enhancements.

I guess I "grew up" flying a KC-135, so it's really not that big of a deal to me. How much time do you really spend touching the overhead panel on an average flight anyway? It's understood that Boeing's hands were tied with the FAA and Airlines to keep a similar type so guess I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Considering that 777 and 787 are now a common typerating with quite different airplanes behind them and very different flightdecks, it is surprising that boeing didn't really update the flightdeck of the 737 much.

But then, airbus did even less updating on their 1988 design with the NEO, and in some ways their avionic package already lags behind the 737.

I still would've preferred that they left the 737 back at the 300/500 and revamped the 757 to accommodate all the new customer requests. Hate to see a great powered airplane go by the wayside to bring on an under powered bird like the 900.
