Default Delta vs. FedEx

Fellow Pilots,
I just got my dream job offer. Twice. Both FedEx and Delta want me to start indoc on the same day next month. I'm doing my research and looking at pay scales, retirement plans, etc. I want to live in the northeast (New Hampshire or Maine). I don't mind flying at night… sometimes.
Any advice or opinions on which offer I should take would be greatly appreciated. Or please point me to a discussion that has already occurred on the forum.

Thanks in advance!

It will be hard to compete $$$$ wise with FEDEX in terms of retirement, wide body, etc.

I would say that living in the NE, you can make a pretty good career with DAL by bidding NYC, you'll be flying to Europe in short order if that is your thing.

It's not really an apples to apples comparison though.

One would hope... But many others thought they would have a retirement at other airlines as well.

Tougher commute out of the NE for FedEx without a doubt.
Personally, I really enjoy flying boxes over people. I'd do either for the right price, but boxes sure are easier.

You would be very senior very fast in NYC with DAL.

Congrats and good luck with your decision!

FedEx is great, just too much flying at night. I know it is not as much as it used to be but still a lot. Not minding being up all/most night (15 nights a month) in your 30's is one thing, but in your 40's-50's-60's is another.

What an awesome opportunity, though. Was a pipe dream just 2-3 years ago..

I would love to go to either place. However, Delta will keep you on the front side of the clock. Night flying will take its toll after many years. Then again, FDX has a better retirement plan. Tough choice. Good luck.

Edited: Just curious...what are your ballpark hours, etc...?

Congrats!

I'd say Delta because you will live longer. No, I'm not kidding.

Yep....there is a reason so many of those guys are probably taking early retirement. Might be more than just the money. Messing with the body clock is not healthy.
