Pan American Shutdown: 25 Years Ago Today

Coolest experience ever as a kid in the early 80s was being on PA #001 over the Pacific, late at night. Captain came on the PA and announced that we would shortly cross paths with PA #002, headed around the world in the opposite direction. Sure enough, there she was, a majestic Clipper in the night. Right then and there I knew I'd be an airline pilot.

Hell. How about no CRM? "Captain, sorry to interrupt your 20-minute briefing on the gear light but we're running out of fuel, sir. Like I intimated 20 minutes ago."

Like when ORD was closed for five days due to snow, and my battery razor* gave out day three. I flight planned places I didn't know were on the system. If you have ever been on a DC-7 without maintenance for six days, pure Heaven. Uphill both ways, tigers. * Too young to shave anyway.
