Default Heres just a random question for you guys... I found this really interesting though.

Ok I was out today studying with one of my instructors for an up coming ride. Anyway we were discussing medical examiners. He is a captain on a 737 for Continential and was telling me about one of his former first class medical examiners. This guy was an opthalmic surgeon AKA an Opthamologist as well as a captain for American when they flew the Boeing 747SP. Right so this was a while back... I was flabbergasted... the stankin guy had a medical practice on the side!! And its true I looked it up, he's from Nashville, and flew for American and worked his medical practice around his flight schedule.

Has anyone else ever heard of this before!?!?!?!?!?!?

I have no clue why this impressed me so much, maybe the double life aspect... The fulfillment of multiple passions. The multidisplinary approach... I dunno, it was food for the imagination at anyrate.

There is a guy in my town. AME, and flys for a heavy ACMI operator. How he manages to do the AME and be gone 17-18 days a month is beyond me. I believe he is also one of the few that specializes in helping guys get medicals back that have lost them.

Airline Pilots are varied bunch with many talents and interests. I've met doctors, lawyers, veterinarians, real estate tycoons, and even a multi-millionaire patent holder - all who practice their specialty and all who fly the line. I'm sure all of them have moved-on, I can't imagine them working in today's airline labor environment.

I, myself, have attempted to work as a part time gynecologist.

I find it much easier to find the work, while on the road, though. And, safer. Although, it's still quite hard, when you find yourself in those tight situations.

Maybe CargoBob was right, afterall?

I know a CAL Captain who is a movie producer and lives in a "mansion". I know another who is a dentist. I'm a part-time Walmart greater on my days off.

Back in the day ACA had a former NFL player... don't remember his name, but he flew as a Dornier Jet FO.

I had a FO 10 years ago that wore a Superbowl ring. He got hired by United; I didn't.

Yeah, he was a cool guy. I belive he played for the Raiders and retired from the Panthers. Can't be certain, after 9/11 I heard he went to ATA. Not sure how true it is. Hope he's doing OK and landed on his feet.

Stand corrected, played for the Rams, finished at Green bay. Played for Charlotte in between the two.
