interesting read. Guess the DC9s arent such a burden after all. Looks like DAL will lose A lot more money then NWA even with our DC9's. Consolidation is probably going to happen either way and it looks like DAL needs it more than NWA.

Call the CLCP. He is the one that started it. I do not think that there will be a press release. It is not a new airframe, just an increase.
If there is one it will probably be coincident with seeking new route authority.
They are definitely talking about it at the training center, and no one is refuting it.

Northwest Reworks Plan For Merger With Delta
By Susan Carey and Paulo Prada
Word Count: 928 | Companies Featured in This Article: Northwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines
Northwest Airlines Corp. executives have proposed that Delta Air Lines Inc. and Northwest proceed with their planned merger, but recut the deal to give less generous terms to their pilots, said people familiar with the matter.
While the idea may be unpopular with the pilots, there is nothing to prevent the carriers from taking that course. Delta still is pondering the idea, these people said. But both airlines know that if they are going to proceed, they need to move very quickly so the transaction can be scrutinized before current Justice Department officials leave office at the end of the ...

It could also mean that they will give NWA pilots less equity money in exchange for buying out some of their senior pilots to straighten out the SLI problem with the DAL list.
That's my optimistic side talking.
My pesimistic side says NWA management is out for revenge and is saying to all pilots, take this merger and shove it. Or more accurately, you will take this merger and shove it.
But, who knows? It's a 50-50 chance. I was getting the impression that they had learned their lesson last summer when all of those flights had to be cancelled, Steenland appeared on TV, and NWA got spanked by the President.
Either way, I'm sure they won't ask me what they should do.

And you SERIOUSLY believe everything you read from that paper or what "airline analysts" put out? Yes, tough times are upon us, and everyone is hunkering down. Things will most likely get worse before they are better, but I certainly am not going to make dire assumptions based on what Merril Lynch puts out. They have called it wrong before many times.

I don't claim to know which Airline is in a better position to operate as a stand-alone company....or even if either of them is in the current economic environment. However, you do have to wonder why with today's announcement, it seems like NWA management is trying harder to keep the merger hopes alive (unless it's as simple as the chance that Steenland gets a sweetheart "going away" package if the deal is consumated).

That could be it or it could be because the shareholders know that if we merged we would be a super airline that would be able to hopefully become very successful. The NWA MEC keeps coming back to DALALPA because they know the mgmt teams are going to keep pushing for it either way. We need to be working together and get whats ours if this is going to happen because we all know, mgmt is going to try and get theirs!
