True. They are available to take calls and will be in the lounges this week.

"Furlough protection—with certain exceptions, no pilot may be furloughed as a result of the merger for a period from merger announcement until 24 months after the close of the merger".

The reason? It will take that long to park DC9's. Then the furloughs will follow after the SLI. Count on it. Listen to RA and Bastian. I am an optimist, but their language is carefully crafted to NOT say anything about hub closures or furloughs. Listen to their words carefully, the devil is in the details, which are not worked out yet. Shoot first, then aim.

Also, the scope language is a very slippery slope. This new language will also include relief for Midwest Airlines. Joe Kolshak is their VP of Operations, formerly DAL.

Do not believe for one second he doesn't smell blood in the water. He was very anti-pilot, even though he was one. Go figure! I will wait for more details on the language, but this may open a can of worms with regard to the gap between DC9's and the MD80's and soon to arrive 737-700's.

The alternative would be to keep the current scope with regard to Midwest Airlines and force their sale. Do you know anyone who might want to buy them? Perhaps a airline with a hub in Atlanta? Smart move on DALPA part to not force the sale.

Are you serious? Yep, lets keep an airline that has 100's of millions of dollars invested by NWA, now DAL so Airtran can't have it. Brilliant!

Airtran's liquidity is not very strong, the credit market is drying or has dried up. So if Aitran wants Midwest, let them have them for price. The US market is much weaker than when Airtran tried to buy them. A LOT has changed.

If DAL/NWA are afraid of competing with a US domestic carrier, then we have a lot to worry about............

With that logic, I guess DAL ought to buy Airtran so SWA's can't.

That might not be as farfetched as you might think...

[quote=hiflyer;363839]"Furlough protection—with certain exceptions, no pilot may be furloughed as a result of the merger for a period from merger announcement until 24 months after the close of the merger".

What does "with certain exceptions" means. Who is the exception exactly?
