Default Outside the Box. Longevity vs. Seat Pay

As a new DAL FO, I cant say I have a very bid dog in the fight. I am very curious to see and read all the details of the deal and hope that those that vote do so with the big picture in mind. I went to DAL because of the future prospects and avoided three other majors because I felt DAL had the best going for it on the day I made my decision. I want to see that future protected just like everyone involved. I hope that is the case.

That being said, How would longevity pay (ala UPS) vs seat pay play out between DAL and NorthWest. Would it not reduce the anxiety and reduce training costs across the board? If we are involved in this unique merger should we not try some different things?

I personally dont want to see much in the way of fences. I think they can be bad in a lot of cases. Domicle fences would be about it for me. One list, then move when openings are posted based on seniority. No bump and flush.

Just my $.02

I have always thought that's an interesting idea. Than you don't chase the metal but the lifestyle. And in the end, isn't that's what it's all about. In Europe they do this and the senior equipment is often the domestic narrowbody flying. The guys are home more often with relatively few time zone changes. The junior Capts are flying the widebodies.

There may be a slight decrease relative to the senior guys based on a leveling system but overall I've often thought many issues could be resolved this way.

With most of Delta's planned growth in large international aircraft I am sure the company would love the proposal. If you give up weight and speed you give up free pay raises in the future.

Is it really free as you say? I see it as a quality of life proposition.
