I agree. RA not only looks to have good intentions he also seems to have a handle on where things should go. It's nice to have someone at the helm that not only wants the airline to succeed but has the right vision to get it done. It's been a while since the airlines had managers who were managing and not figuring ways to rob the piggy bank.

Pretty eassy to show "good intentions" when somebody throws $22,000,000 bones in your personal piggy bank when you come on board the ship. Let's see what happens in a year or six.

I think all this resistance to change from both pilot groups. Northwest initially and now Delta will lead to some resolutions and also make the pilots more receptive to the future changes to come.

It is not a bad thing to disagree. It would lead to setting the tone for the future even if we do not win today.

I would also like to commend the Northwest pilots and flight attendents who have acted in an outstanding manner during my commute to work. Only one bad event in so many trips. Inspite of some of my positions towards the merger it is not personal and your professionalism goes a long way towards changing negative perspectives.

If I went with my heart totally I would give you guys my paycheck. It always pays to remind ourselves that this is just a message board and a place for fantasy and expressions that may not be as realistic or practical as the real world. Have fun with it but do not take it to heart. The majority of pilots do not visit this site.

And for detective superpilot92 stop calling me an African American and telling the whole world I am black bla bla. I find it slightly offensive. I know you love your company NWA but I am an AMERICAN:) And if you think my company is going to fire me for my veiws then you are clueless about Delta Airlines. I am easily identified courtesy of my race and the limited amounts of blacks in the Industry. If you want my name to write a letter to management or to the unions I will be happy to give it to you.

I have no fear of the consequences of a position I take once I believe in it. I did not get this far in life by always running with the crowd. I sometimes choose to be different and I am extremely principled. You may not understand all my principles. Some are a product of my background and that is not a bad word by the way Superpilot92. It is simply what it is background. But I would rather be buried alive than have any fear of you. The day I cannot freely disagree with you or anyone is a day I have no desire to see.

It appears that once you realized you could take full credit for your posts you tamed your posts down a bit, which is good. Back to the topic: If the company is so convinced that this merger will be so lucrative, why are they so reluctant to provide more conditional candy for all of us in this TA??? And why should we balk at trying to get some consideration in the contract now, rather than waiting 4+ years?

I would be on board with 3 years and COLA+. I think it will take 18-24 months to consolidate the operating certificate. I think we'll have a pretty good idea whether or not it's working at 3 years. Let's face it, if the business plan is working, it will take a year or more to negotiate the next contract anyway (if we're serious about getting what we should).

I'd like to see the next contract solidified at 4 years, and not just in the opening phases of negotiations at that point. The farther out we push this, the more likely cabotage (or something we cannot possibly foresee) will affect us and hurt our position. History has shown that there is a penalty for not striking when the iron is hot. I need not say the words "February '08 pre-meger opportunity." But I will. :D Look what just a couple months cost us there...

This is not about you being black nor do I really care what your personal preference towards the races may be. When some kid from Minnesota who manages to get a job flying and has parents who adopt a mixed kid and feels he is racially grounded as a result of such an adoption starts to lecture me on race, it sickens me.

I do not know what your folks motive for adoption was nor do I want to go there. It is enough to say for some people adoption is similiar to getting a pet. Maybe a really black kid was too much for you. maybe a mixed kid was preferable. Have you ever asked them why a mixed kid. Maybe so that it is not too hurtful to your eyes. What ever service you imagine you have done to the black people. Somethings are better left alone and my veiws espercially racially must always be judged in the context of the debate taking place at the time. I do not hate white people and in fact happen to find them admirable. I can say that and that is all that matters. I do not say it because of fear or favor. It is a good way to be and I can not tell you that every black person I know feels that way. But for those who still fear or distrust other races I would always reach across and say give it a chance.

I understand and respect your argument for voting no, but right there you've given the biggest reason for voting yes. No one outside of the MECs and management has seen the pre-merger contract, but if what has been posted is true, it had more to offer than what this JPWA now has.

So, in the last four months we have lost ground even though our leverage really hasn't changed. If anything, you could argue that our leverage has increased because of the merger announcement, yet we still couldn't do any better. With the way the economy and oil prices are going, odds are that if this gets voted down, the next contract will have even less to offer. It's one thing to negotiate for as much as you can, it's another to negotiate yourself out of business.

I'm still a DAL probie so I won't have a say in how this plays out. But if I did, I'd vote yes. Take the money and run. Neither option is great but this is the lesser of the two evils.

And Speedbird and SuperPilot, give it a rest. You're supposed to be professional airline pilots. Instead you're acting like a couple of 6-year-olds.

I am not surprised by your apparent dishonesty. Again as I said early I stand firmly by my statements as regards you. I just responded by giving you a sizable dose of what you wanted.

Hopefully we will learn to keep race out of our discussions. I would be very happy to discuss the finer points of interracial adoption and the harm it does to black kids if their adopting parents do not understand the underlying cultural differences. From just reading your posts I cannot imagine what that kid has gone through with you claiming to be her brother.

I see so many damaged kids from interacial adoptions in Minnesota. Black kids who wash their hair and sun tan to mention a few things. There is a certain amount of damage that can be the result of such an environment.

If this merger takes place I should be able to identify you. One of the 27yr old recent hires from Northwest on the bottom of our list. I am definitely concerned for the wellbeing of that black child growing up in your home:)
