DAL/NWA Merger - Am I reading this article correctly?!?!

I'm kinda looking at this whole thing as a rock thrown into a pond, big splash and then losts of sloshing with all of us holding on till the pond gets smooth again.
The new Delta has said up front they will move flying around as acl65 has said. I guess at NWA that is not as big a deal as we are a company of commuters and we just follow the flying. I think that will be the biggest culture change for you guys, at least in the short run, commutting or deadheading to what you do. Is it good? Nope, commutting sucks. Do you wish your Delta hadn't picked up DTW and MSP.....yup, but like any of us had a say in the matter.
E1Out, I guess what I'm trying to say is your life has changed from plan A. However, mine is changing too. From the way I bid to how I book a jumpseat to where my wife drops me off at the airport to how I check in and how I do a checklist will change too. I'll freely admit, not as much as a decision on where to live but I hope you see what I mean. My sister is a banker........now that's job turbulance.
Acl, I agree that the trips will get longer. However, that will also help commuting.......fewer commutes and maybe why we have longer rotations (see I'm even learning the lingo)
Good luck to us all! The beer is on me my friend.

PS any 777 guy on here with a rumor on when you guys will head to "camp radisson" in NRT? You are going to sooooooooo enjoy dorm life ;-) The upside was numerous young hardbody KLM girls out by the pool this month. However, I didn't see any SAS crews around this time :-(

In a sick way I look forward to it. It will make a DFW commute a lot easier now that there will be many more options.
I like long trips, as long as they are productive. I hate bumping up against the min day credit like we have been doing with some of the six days. One or two commutes a month would be awesome.

I see your a 757/767 guy. I'm a 757 guy who mostly does our Asia flying. I figure we will be the lab rats for consolidation so maybe see ya around. The Asia trips are 12 to 14 days depending on the monthly cap so only one commute. Oh, and with the deadhead and trip hour credit they are worth 80somethig with only 40something hardfly....you will like them alot (if your junior to me )

Not to feed the rumor mill, but there has been some talk of an FA base since there will be plenty of flying for them out of DFW. (There is nothing in the works, it was just talk, kind of tongue and cheek.) I guess they have tried everything to get rid of the senior mama's and nothing has worked so they might as well make it easier on us

Like any change, it involves uncertainty, and we, as pilots, don't like uncertainty. The seniority list integration is a big wild card, and while the process will try to make it fair, some disparities are bound to occur. (Hopefully they'll be minimized.)
While some may initially do better in the SLI than others, the combined company will ultimately provide a better career for all of us.

This answers my question regarding aircraft movement... Thank you. My fear is losing my base (which is one of the reasons I applied to DAL and not NWA).
My question in regards to fences, is whether or not I may be prevented from moving to another DAL aircraft before more senior NWA pilots get a crack at it - potentially boxing me out of it for the next ~10 years. (Again, another reason I applied to DAL and not NWA.)

Per the roadshows and MEC folks in the lounges (I sat for 2 hours on 5 July listening and questioning the guys):
We will maintain two seperate "lists" until SOC BUT the company can move jets, etc from the DCC.
The only fences mentioned were for widebodies and that lasts...5 years I believe - that is not set into stone either.
Call me and I can tell you what they said. Easier than typing.

I think that the exact opposite is true. While we all have concerns about the details of this deal, few of us think that this merger is not a good strategic move. Those that have had a peek at the business plan are impressed with what they've seen.

I think atpcliff's post was of a sarcastic nature. He wants a job.
I agree with you whole heartedly though. This merger is going to be good for us all career wise.
And atpcliff, keep that resume dusted off, the new DAL will probably hire a lot sooner then most think.

I heard yesterday that DFW airport is pushing for the new DAL to open a DFW again as LUV turned down their free gates/landing fees/plus cash to come into DFW two years ago. DFW says they need more competition out of DFW. AA is flying solo with little competition now. If I can find the article I'll paste it.
