Mesa Open House

Cough, cough. Bul$hit. Our CEO is the reason why our FO pay is what it is. ALPA reps were on the forum saying $32 per hour was good. JO insisted on $36. When he talks to new hires, he says “welcome to Mesa, you are the most sought after people in the airline industry right now.”
And, the “Mesa stink” must be gone for Mesa pilots that do have a good track record. Every major (Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska, FedEx) is hiring our CA’s (except I don’t know one who has gone to American). And, if a CA has been around here too long, he can jump to a regional with a flow if he would like. There are lifers here. There are lifers everywhere.
Yeah, I have a concern about the Ejets being taken away. Our trainees are being shipped to Europe to compensate for a lack of SIM availability in the US. But, fewer jets will only lower our Ejet pay from the best in the industry (when you factor in 300%) to mediocre pay. What was your flight time last month and how much did you credit? I blocked over 98 hours and credited 150 hours, still managing 13 days off.

Lol. I would be if I hadn’t confirmed it.
As far as JO, he did want higher pay than ALPA reps for the FO’s. And, I have heard his new hire speal.
Do I really think he gives a $hit about us? No. I think he is thinking about when and where to sell Mesa so he can cash out and move back to Hawaii. But, he knows the right words to say or he wouldn’t be the CEO.
And, the training department has some real issues with Ejet training right now.

I understand from some interviewees that they have been asked some oral style questions. At GoJet and Mesa, I was not. Before someone jumps on that statement, I’m older with enough real world experience, as well as possessing CFII/IGI/MEI ratings, that I am given the benefit of the doubt on my knowing enough to be given the opportunity to get blasted with the 121 firehose of knowledge.
A friend went to Envoy and somehow dug himself into a hole with an interviewer who must of thought he was a junior DPE and, was turned down. Two months later, he interviewed again with someone else and was hired.
135 and other low time opportunities may include a sim session to make sure you have good hands as an aviator.
All that said being said, at least be ready to brief a STAR and or SID and an approach chart, dress nicely, shine your shoes, don’t pick your nose, exhibit good manners, speak honestly and intelligently. Don’t forget to ask some questions yourself!
Oh yeah, I don’t remember if EDV was on the slide, but as far as base pay it was second or third lowest. Remember though, you are talking about .50 or .75 per hour. From my perspective, it is pretty short sighted to make a decision over pennies per hour. Add the 22.5K bonus and Mesa is up there with most regionals. Throw out Envoy, because that has a contract associated with it.
The point of the presenter (as well at G7), was that regional pay is what it is. It’s entry level in the 121 world and can always be better. The guys that are 10 years ahead of you got paid 1/3 to 1/2 of today’s rates. I’ve made a lot more money doing other things in my life and for me, it’s more about having the opportunity to have a good training environment and get to the left seat in two years or less. Anyway, that’s where the real opportunity and money starts for you guys with several decades of work left..

As far as JO is concerned, yeah, he’s a smooth talker. But so are most used car salesmen.
I guess that 300% pay is good, as long as it lasts. Maybe that will make up for the months of lost pay while sitting around waiting for sims while getting minimum guarantee, which is about the lowest in the industry right now. But again, unless they can fool enough people to come on soon, that United e-jet flying is going away. Then what? Stuck at $36 an hour with long upgrades? And you’ll have to pay back a bonus to get out!

Don’t kid yourself. There is a contract at Mesa if you take the bonus. And that bonus is taxed at a pretty hefty rate.
