Because our cancellation rate is 3.8%. And Republic’s cancellation rate is 3.6%. So, the story goes, Republic is going to take all our flying away. And, we can’t get a pilot out of training inside of 5 months. But, wait, we own 18 of the 60 Ejets. And, Republic isn’t in any better shape we are.

And speaking of Republic, you want to see some horrendous cancellation numbers? Look back at the amount of flights RAH was cancelling during the 2012-2015 time frame before they signed their contract.

I agree. My concern is the timeframe to get pilots through training. The rate of pilots leaving hasn’t let up. If Mesa can fix that, the Ejets aren’t going anywhere.

Don’t kid yourself. There is a contract at Mesa if you take the bonus. And that bonus is taxed at a pretty hefty rate.
As far as JO is concerned, yeah, he’s a smooth talker. But so are most used car salesmen.
I guess that 300% pay is good, as long as it lasts. Maybe that will make up for the months of lost pay while sitting around waiting for sims while getting minimum guarantee, which is about the lowest in the industry right now. But again, unless they can fool enough people to come on soon, that United e-jet flying is going away. Then what? Stuck at $36 an hour with long upgrades? And you’ll have to pay back a bonus to get out!

You get your money back unless your spouse is making a lot of money and she throws you into a high tax bracket. If this is the case, I am not really sure why you are flying for Mesa and not home taking care of your spouse.

An accountant isn’t even needed to get your money back from the high tax withholding if you use any tax preparation software.

My point was that bonus tax withholding is not what your final tax rate will be. That is a very common misconception.

The new tax law isn’t as favorable for flight crews. No more taking an additional itemized deduction for “additional business expense”. We only get the per diiem tax free. At least no more keeping receipts and keeping track of expenses. That kinda sucks and will make unions argue for higher per diems.

With the new standard deduction of $24,000.00, it would be pretty hard to itemize up to that amount. I hit 12k pretty easy with 2 mortgages and a crap load of unpaid per diem. If you can claim 24k in deductions, I’m guessing you can afford a good accountant! Lol!
