Default Equipment

I'm considering applying. Do they give you a choice which equipment you'll fly? If I want to be PHX based, then its all about the CRJ, correct?

Thanks.

I believe they do and yes you have to be on the CRJ. I’m sure they’ll give you the CRJ all the cool kids want to fly planes with engines under the wings.

Yeah, if you want to be a “cool kid” in PHX, Compass is the only game in town.

Lol I could care less about cool. It’s tough to be cool making first year FO pay at any regional

If pay is what is paramount, then ask how long to become CA at PHX. And, what base is where the junior CA is in their system.

I think these answers still point to Compass.

Pay is important, but not paramount. Sounds like guys at Mesa are flying 95+ hours per month. I can’t say the same for PHX based Compass guys. Maybe they are as well, but I’ve only heard it’s a small base with crappy lines. Is it possible Mesa PHX pilots could potentially earn more than PHX Compass pilot’s just by working more? Mesa is still offering the bonus as well.

How long does it take to upgrade to CA at Mesa and able to hold PHX? The website says July of 2017.

Compass website says junior PHX CA was hired March of 2016.

It is possible to earn more at Mesa than any other regional. If you will give up your life and fly out of any base on the CRJ, the 300% is enticing.

CA's in PHX are running about 13 months currently. Basically, once you have the requisite hours to upgrade, you can upgrade within Mesa on either the CRJ or the Ejet.

Being a line holder is a different story. Last month, the most junior CA to hold a line in PHX was hired in December 2016. He was lucky, before him, the most junior CA to hold a line in PHX was October 2015.

While CA's may take a bit longer in PHX at Compass, LAX is a short commute and has the same upgrade timeframe as Mesa. And, SEA is a shorter commute than IAD which is where you will likely be based initially at either regional.
