I guess the bigger question is what will be the fallout of this. Can they keep there current flying? Or will this cost the UA 700’s. Maybe they get a cargo contract for them..? AA 900’s? UA owned 175’s. Not sure how they can juggle another fleet type and training of senior captains going to the 737 then back filling there spot.. seems to much of a stretch..

You gotta believe this has all been considered. I know if no one who wants to do it.

Accurate.

The guy that said you have a “scab mentality” is an idiot.

I wish more people that moved on from the regionals kept their ear to the ground the way you have. This move directly affects the ACMI industry in a massive way.

Should be interesting.

Losing flying from a mainline partner would be the obvious.

If i was running Mesa. I honestly would look at Cargo also. Think about it. Delta has picked its team. Doubtful any new regional players for them (and history says they will never do business with Mesa again) AA seems upset with performance and reliability... leaves you with UA. They seem to be going another direction. So long term running a company with zero to no chance of landing any new contracts with the Majors what would you do.. good for him to maybe, maybe pulling off a cargo operation....

What do the cargo guys on here think is a respectable rate for the Mesa 737’s? Southern Air rates? Something higher since Southern is low anyways? Something a bit higher since we probably won’t be home based?

DL,AS,UA, 737 rates.... I predict how much you would fly, no 300% and Mesa. It would actually be a pay cut for E175 CA to 737 CA...

As somebody blissfully not involved in DHL/AMZ flying...I’d say Northern Air Cargo 737 rates, at minimum.

Sun Country and Southern shouldn’t be the benchmark.

Night express flying is hard on the body and you’ll almost never block more than base guarantee...rates, rigs, and other work rules are king IMO.

This isn’t gonna be anything like flying a 175 or 900....

For some people commuting isn’t that bad. Some of us even like this job BECAUSE we are able to commute. Some of us have worked 16-17+ day stretches with equal time off in other careers and have determined that it isn’t for us. Just as you have determined that working 3-5 days with a commute on each end isn’t for you.

And that’s ok. Everyone has different priorities, and I’m sincerely happy to see that you have found a company that you not only enjoy flying for, but are passionate about.

However.

Looking for EVERY SINGLE CHANCE to proclaim to the world the “I DON’T HAVE TO COMMUTE” and “I ONLY DO ONE TRIP A MONTH!!!!” etc. does not make you seem like the professional and genuinely caring pilot that some of your compatriots at K4 have said you are in person. It makes you seem obnoxious and insecure.

My jumping in was more a response to post 162 where it was stated that going someplace like K4 won't help a person get to a legacy, SW or Brown/Purple. This is absolutely NOT true. For those who desire to move on, especially senior regional captains who have been stuck in their seat for a long time and are thus considered "unhireable" a place like K4 can be a very good move. No pay cut, no worries about a commute, get experience in wide-body/international. If you get "stuck" you can still make great money. I know this from both personally knowing several pilots who have made the move and from my movement on the seniority list.

But yeah, the 16 days may be tough. But for someone living in a remote location with a tough commute, it's great. Or for someone like me who, after 20 years, was facing a commute with 12 days off a month, noncommutable lines (so really down to about 8-9 days off), it was also great.
But it's all a moot point. K4 has become pretty competitive.
