Only hiring captains. Stopped hiring FOs due to lack of captains.

We (Republic) FOs are lucky because we are almost 50-50 and are hiring FOs.

It's good for you all if they are still hiring anyone. Though I suppose they could hire someone in the morning and close the doors the next day. The more I learn about the industry the crazier it gets.

How did you all seem to retain your captains? The regional industry is struggling for captains.

Not really sure. There seems to be an upgrade class here every week or two and we have a lot of lifers who live in base and are extremely happy.

Likely scenarios: 1) CommutAir and Mesa are merging or UA is parting ways and Mesa is expanding cargo.

lol commutair and mesa merging isnt happening.

The REAL most likely scenarios is either:

A) United and Mesa agree to a REAL contractual United flow like the American Airlines wholly owned do to AA (envoy, piedmont), no fine print BS

B) United and Mesa part ways as you said and they would only be a cargo carrier for DHL and maybe create another contract with Amazon, etc.

C) United buys Mesa and all Mesa pilots become United pilots.

Come back to this post next month and see how right I was.

All speculation

I think it's C with the help united.

Ejets going to commutair and c5 145s are getting phased out. Mesa pilots will be placed in some sort of flow program to UA or given some sort of merge into c5. CRJs phased out. Mesa will attempt to expand cargo with united taking a bigger stake.

Is either hiring? I (and some friends) still have a CJO but no responses or updates in months. If they are not hiring it could mean they know they are done. I heard we're (I'm at Republic) picking up Mesa flying. Same with gojet.

No way Republic is in a position to pick up flying from anyone.

But is it in less bad shape than the other regionals?

there really is zero point in buying Mesa just to absorb their flight ops into United. The easier thing to do would be to give everyone preferential interviews and delayed class dates with a contingency that you can’t leave Mesa while you wait and you get a sign on bonus. 6-12 month wind down, maybe transfer some E-jets and park the 900’s

Interesting thinking. We will see how it plays out.

United (Scott Kirby) has mentioned before they are not buying Mesa. It won’t happen.
