Quote: Colgans better then mesa?
I would like to see an airline if its going to replace Mesa be one in which has a better track record. Safety, training, pay, QOL and has done something to raise the bar. Personally that would be AWAC, ASA, SKW etc. All of which have ok pay rates, good work rules, good QOL, etc. I really would hope a place like Gojets/Colgan/Mesa in which lack the work rules, QOL, and countless other items win a bid just because they are the cheapest. It has nothing to do with crappy regional is better then which crappy regional. In the end I much rather see it done by MAINLINE but we know that will not happen. I rather not see anyone else grow at all and just keep it how it is currently. No one else will lose their job and no one will gain due to anothers loss.

Quote: As someone who is very close to being furloughed but still hanging on, I want to say thank you for that attitude and comment. I understand a lot of people hate this company, but we are fellow pilots and we need to adopt a mentality of working with each other, not rooting against each other. Again, thank you, I wish there were more like you out there.

Why did you go work for Mesa?

When all pilots are at comparable pay rates with comparable contracts, we'll be "fellow pilots". Until then the people choosing to take it up the *** for quick upgrades at ****hole operations are kicking everyone else in the nuts.

Because I got in towards the end of the hiring boom (late 2007), and I had to think about my family, our house that were $150k upside down on,(so we can't sell it), and the ability to stay on the west coast. I was offered several jobs around the same time, but my primary goal was to be able to be based as close to phx as possible. I'm not some 20 yr old kid who can just go wherever. From my perspective, this was merely a stepping stone to better things, obviously things have changed quite a bit but I will say, although Mesa has their issues, so does every other regional.. Other than pay, I've actually had very little to complain about and love the people I work with. I agree things need to change in this industry but what's the answer? Your guess is as good as mine...

Actually, it has everything to do with that. Not every regional has the horrible work rules and QOL that others do. They are all operating the same equipment, the only savings are on having low seniority workforces, and skimping on things such as MX and training to the bare minimums....
Eventually, even the seniority issue will not be a cost saver since there will be no major growth at legacy carriers, so most people are already at where they will likely finish their careers... the end rsult being that everybody has topped out workforces... so, where do they save money beyond mx, training and things like that... they have to get more QOL concessions... like sleeping on the airplanes and BS like that.

Not all regionals are the same

Knowing what I know now, you're probably right... I honestly didn't know how bad things were until I got in. Or how this business really is... I wish that mainline did the flying like the old days, but I can't change that. All I can do is learn from my experiences and do the best I can in the future.

Quote: So flying Q1's and Q2's gives you the training and infrastructure for a completely different airframe? The Q4 has very few similarities (pretty much ends with looks) as the Q1/2/3's and they do not cross over..........at all. It's no different from operating CRJ's and moving to the Q4. I’m also certain that most who flew all three (Horizon) would agree that the CR2 is more similar to the Q4 than the Q1/2/3’s. (Speed, Fuel Burn, Automation, etc.)

BTW, SKW has never said they want out of the TP’s markets or that they want an “all jet fleet.”. They had a retirement schedule for their E120’s but always hinted that they are interested in a replacement. Also the Q4 is not a good replacement for the E120……….the Q4 is WAY TOO large to operate in the markets the EMB operates in. Just look at Horizon who retired their Q2’s and ended service to many of their smaller markets. No, the Q4 is an excellent replacement for CR2’s and CR7/9’s on their shorter runs (<2 hrs or so). In order to replace the E120 SKW needs a NG 30-40 seat TP.
DHC-8 is the same type just like CL-65 is the same type. The rest is transition training...
As far as the the Bro at SKW I was told by A couple Bro pilots that the plan was they were slated to be phased out and replaced by jets/something else until the most recent economic sh!+ storm happened...Just like you said, good luck finding a NG 30-40 seat TP

Quote: Didn't X-jet pick up some new flying recently with UAL. They could use some more diversification.

I don't think UAL wants anymore 50 seaters jets (Unless Xjet is willing to fly a prop or a 70 seater)

Quote: It is Colgan.

United and Colgan had a deal in principle for the Q's to fly either out of DEN of LAX . A week or so before it could be finalized 3407 happened. United pulled out because of the bad press with the crash.

United wants those Q's but has to hold of for a bit more before making the announcement. Colgan already owns the options on Q's for 2011 so the planes are there just looking for a home.
COLGAN OWNS WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
I believe Pinnacle Corp owns everything ... purchased with money from the Labor's backs ...

Way to state the obvious! Sorry, Pinnacle Corp owns them. I am sure everybody understood what he meant.
