Where do you think your managment is going to look when they need to cut costs and match Mesa?
Chapter 11 will help Mesa lower their costs and make everyone else more expensive.
Does GE, Bombardier, Emb have to renegotiate? No, but really what choice will they have. Get some payment for the 50 seaters or no payment at all. I don't expect Mesa to shrink its size to levels that others say only because the 50 seaters aren't going anywhere.

What we can hope for is that the creditors have other takers for the airplanes and force Mesa into Chapter 7. But I don't see that happening.
No major wants those 50-seaters (especially if they are operated by mesa). Even if mesa gets a significant reduction in lease payments, where are they going to get the income? DL and UA have already terminated their 50 seat flying, there's only a handful left at US.

If the same people also hold the 900 and 700 leases, they would probably prefer to kill mesa and get their big RJ's back...those still have market value.

Isn't it true that Mesa hasn't payed its leases in some time? Forcing the major carriers like US Airways to pay it for them since the flying is theirs.

50 seaters will go one of three routes:

1. Beer cans
2. Third world
3. Corporate Jet conversion

The CR9s and CR7s will definitely get scooped up. Ideally I would love to see one of the majors scoop them up and stick mainline pilots in them but realistically that won't happen. It's what I'm hoping for though.

The more realistic option (and smart business decision from a management perspective) would be someone with a ton of cash (Skywest or RAH) coming in and buying these up and burying Mesa once and for all.

The Reverend seems a little preoccupied at the moment and I doubt he'll get any more feed contracts from his major partners since he is now directly competing with them. He also seems to have an obsession with the E-Jets so I doubt he'll add to his small CRJ fleet.

Skywest Inc. seems like the most realistic candidate to scoop up these aircraft if the opportunity arrises. They are sitting on a ton of cash and can probably find a home for them in short order.

Thoughts?

Rumor has it Anheuser Busch is formulating a proposal for the 50-seaters as we speak. Johnny could get a contract and open a new business - OCC (Ornstein Can Corporation).

The best part is, it could be mostly machinery with few pesky humans to skim his profits.

Whomever does buy what is left of Mesa, has enough financial prowess to know that Mesa has not reached their optimum breakup price at present. They still have to loose the case with Delta, they still have to loose their flying with UA, they still have to exacerbate their creditors further, until the inevitable occurs. Filing Chapter 7, is the key here. At that point in time, the vultures will begin to circle.....

My best bet would be for Skywest to be picking at the eye sockets first...

Right now, Mesa has 177 airplanes to its name. Incredibly, a whopping 52 of those are parked:

* 20 Beechcraft 1900 19 seat turboprops haven’t been used for a long time
* 3 Bombardier Dash-8 turboprops have joined them
* 17 Bombardier CRJ-200 50 seat jets are sitting in the desert
* 12 Embraer ERJ-145 50 seat jets are parked

In addition to that, United will be ending its contract for 7 Dash 8s and 18 CRJ-200s in the near future. Mesa says it wants to ditch those 76 airplanes. That will leave them with a mere 101 airplanes left as follows.

* 6 Bombardier Dash-8s with US Airways
* 8 Bombardier CRJ-200s with US Airways
* 5 Bombardier CRJ-200s with go!
* 22 Embraer ERJ-145s with Delta
* 2 Embraer ERJ-145s subleased out
* 20 Bombardier CRJ-700s with United
* 38 Bombardier CRJ-900s with US Airways

Free jets anyone? Get your free jets. By 3 get 1 free.

I know Piedmont wouldn't mind taking those Dash 8s off their hands

Apparently they are not enforceable in bankruptcy.

Who writes these contracts?
