In theory, a golden day makes you immune to being junior assigned on that day. Regular days off are subject to junior assignment. You can bid up to 3. Best way to do it is to bid the first day in a group of days off as golden. Since they have to give you that day off, once you're off you're not required to be contactable, so the phone goes off or silent for the whole group of days off.

Anyone else having trouble with the US wings site tonight? I'm trying to list for a ride to CLT but it keeps saying there's no flights available, no matter what date I put in. I tried logging off and back on but still no luck.

1) No DFW is all CRJ-900s--no CRJ-700s on the Airways/AA side at this time, and all of the ones we (currently) have are devoted solely to United Express in IAD.
2) Golden days are "inviolate" meaning they can't (or aren't supposed to) JRA/junior assign you or schedule anything on those days. For example, let's say you have a wedding on the 10th of a month, and you work the 5th-9th. Let's say there's a meltdown/snowstorm and they're junior assigning an overnight that'd take you into the 10th (your day off). Per contract, they're supposed to go from the most junior available pilot up the list in inverese seniority order when trying to pin the JRA on someone. If you bid and were awarded a golden day on the 10th, they have to skip you and keep going up the list.
I never bid golden days on reserve b/c I was living out of a suitcase/hotel, and I actually wanted them to junior assign me for the $$$ and the comp day off later in the month. And it also messed with my ability to rapidly swap around reserve days as the numbers in flica shifted, since you can't swap into a GLD/golden day unless you call crew line and have it removed.
Anyways hope that clarifies things a bit. You can always just scan your contract pdf for "golden day" it's defined in there fairly well.

Be careful if you're TDY in DFW. There's a skunk that forages around the hotel at night looking for food. And, I was just verbally attacked by a crazy woman in the breakfast room.

Has to be on a day off. Done through the link on the pilot lounge. Best to use on the day AFTER a trip to limit ja issues
