Any ex-ARMY RW aviators out there?
Hello guys....as you can see by my name I fly the chinook. I am intersted to know if there are any ARMY guys out there flying in the Reg, Maj, or just flying FW........If any out there.....please drop a line on how you went about joining the airlines?

Regionals for me. After the army, borrowed a bunch of money to finish fixed wing ratings, flight instructed to build FW time, and then got hired by a regional. Not the quickest path, but as quick as I could make it.

I flew Hueys in the Corps and then went into the Army Guard and flew Hueys, OH6s and CH-47As. I built up FW time flight instructing, charter, commuter,and corporate before getting on an overnight express company. I now fly 767s and there are quite a few former Army and Marine Corps helo drivers working here.

I primarily flew UH/MH60s in the Army. Got my fixed wing ratings on the civilian side using my GI Bill on active duty. I left active duty, did some flight instructing; flew 135; then got hired by the regionals.
I recommend going to http://aptap.forumco.com/Default.asp . You will find a bunch of former RW pilots who have transitioned to civilian flying careers.

FLY ARMY!
Just went over 20 here and getting ready to retire. I spent the first 12 years flying the Huey and then the last 8 flying the C-12. I just got my 737 type through Higher Power and am hoping to get on with Southwest.
47 driver, if you are still in then try applying for the fixed wing course. If you are already out, then go to an FBO in your area and start where you can (not sure what you have for ratings) at building up your ME turbine PC time. That is what everyone is looking for and according to those in the know that I have spoken with, it is going to be a pilots world (shortage) for awhile.

Qualification training is the military term and it is very similar to being typed in the plane except you start out with the small single engine stuff and work up to the multi engine airframes.
Once you are finished with this training and have performed all the manuevers, approaches etc. you are good to go. It is just added on to your ticket.
