I've been at FedEx a little longer than you've been at OMNI. We have a fairly large contingent of RC guys here. Mark Conger is a regular at the reunions.

I might consider the next one.

TonyC,

I'm sure we crossed path's as well. I did UPT at Vance while you were there (89-04 E Flight). I flew the Ball at PAEI from Oct 90 and then moved with the 24th to KOFF in Mar 92. I upgraded and went to the 38th Dec 92 and then left for the U-2 in Dec 94. Been flying the Deuce ever since.

Go to FTI in Dallas and ask for the quick version. They start you on Sunday, you'll be done by Friday afternoon. $4,995 plus only 6 nights in the hotel. Not too shabby...

Do I need to ask for the manuals and prep before I take the short course or will they take care of all of it there? Thanks.

Stella 09-18-2007 11:46 AM

Congratulations Herkdrv! http://www.b737.org.uk/ I don't know about the short course, but this site has all kinds of good 737 stuff on it to start looking at. I've got a beer for you next time you make it back to Deutschland.

Herkdrv 09-18-2007 03:20 PM

Great site thanks Stella. Have we crossed paths before?

They will overnite your books and CDROM when you call and pay the deposit. You need to "log" 32 hours of home study before you show up. Basically, you can let the thing stay on and rack up the time if you want. The main focus is the overhead panel and the profiles. You will be more than prepared if you do the CD once and go over the sim profiles.

I'm late to the discussion, but I think you made an Excellant choice, especially now that you have a job offer. As a herc driver who did the last three years at Ramstein, I can tell you duty life at Ramstein is an utter nightmare. Off duty it is the best place in the world, trouble is the leadership manages to work you/deploy you/put you on call so much you are lucky if you are able to take two weeks of leave a year and get one weekend a month to do anything fun, and after working 12-14 hour days the whole week do you even have the energy??

I just seperated with 6 weeks of terminal leave and sold over 30 days of leave - not by choice, forced into it by being deployed so much and having leave Cancelled Multiple times - often at the last minute. What I'm saying is - Germany is awesome but you never are allowed to enjoy it. Granted I was not OSA so they may have it a little better but the problems are integral to Ramstein/USAFE and are Not changing. I noticed the people saying the assignment was good one were either there many years ago or were not Herc drivers. Just food for thought for any herc drivers that may consider going there and good on you for your decision I think you will be happy with it - you can always visit Germany and will actually be able to relax, travel and have fun.
