Question Palace Chase / Palace Front for Old(ish) Guys

Question for the group: Can anyone shed some light on the availability/advisability/benefits of possible Palace Chase/Front opportunities for O-5 or O-6 aircrew that have over 20 years of active duty and are interested in traditional reserve or ANG service? Evaluating my options to continue serving and have a "backup" to joining an airline after military retirement. Thoughts?

Over 20 years? Hang up the spurs and collect the pension check immediately and get on a seniority list.

At your level, you have zero chance. You're 10 years too late, no unit would hire you. Either stay active or learn how to be uninstitutionalized.

I only know of one guy who went active 0-6 to reserve 0-6. I haven’t asked, but my guess is he was asked to go reserve to take the job he went into. The Guard will be very allergic to an active duty 0-5 or 0-6 because their guys can’t compete on military resume and the active guy can’t compete in that state’s guard politics (probably).

Finally, Palace Chase/Front doesn’t apply after twenty. Long story short, find a Reserve 0-5/6 position that nobody wants and that needs to be filled and you can make that jump. There will be no real financial benefit vs just retiring and going airlines.
