AME at Oceana/Virginia Beach
Hey guys, did any of you Hornet or Rhino pilots use a flight surgeon at Oceana to get your FAA 1st class medical? I just had my annual short form done and was wondering if there's anybody there that I can take the form in to get signed off since it just took place this month. Or is the FAA physical more like a long form that I'd have to schedule?
I was reading somewhere that some flight surgeon's are signed off to do the FAA medicals, and some aren't.
The FAA's website has a list of AME's in Virginia Beach, but the flight surgeon is free...
Thanks

Hey, let me know if you have any luck wth the flight doc. We have one here at Fairchild that is an AME and when I inquired about an FAA 1st Class, I was told that he is here for the Civil Air Patrol only, and that it was $150 downtown, and good luck and good-bye. So much for helping the bros out!

medical
Hey guys. I know this isn't in Oceana....but, in Kansas City (suburb of Raytown to be exact) there lives a little old AME named Ray Baker. the guy only does medicals now, and does first class medicals for 50 bucks. Yes, read that again....it's right, fifty bucks. He's a pilot himself and loves guys who fly...so if you're in the KC area...or want to save some cash and can make it, look him up. I think he does them Tues-Thurs from 9-3 or something like that. I'd call ahead to make sure. I was told they are now walk-ins instead of making a reservation. If you want more info just PM me, I just went to him in May.

Sig,
None of the Flight Docs at Oceana can give a class 1. I only know of one doc who is an AME but not for Class 1. I'm pretty sure you'll need to fork over the 90.
PM me if you have any questions

Dont spend money where you dont have to right? Sig....The flight docs I knew of, could only do 2nd class medicals. I went through the same thing...got the 2nd class from a flight doc, then had to fork over the $ 80 for a 1st class....you get over spending the money pretty fast when you have to renew it every 6 months....that depends on who you want to work for though (ie IRO duties or stuff like that) but you have to get one for the interview at least......then maybe you can keep a 2nd class
