Blended Retirement
#4
I was right at 10 yrs when it came out and opted in. I looked at it as the DoD match was going to at least get me some extra scratch if I didn't make it to retirement. The lump sums are a nice option too; even though I don't plan on doing that.

The BRS is pretty new, but at the time it was rolled out, there was an 'opt-in' option for folks that had joined earlier under High-3.
I forget what the look-back eligibility was ... but it was a few years at least.
So there ended up being a sizable overlap between the two systems.

Keeping in mind that leadership had been directed to remain agnostic about opt-in... "What do you think I'd recommend?"
That seemed answered the question to everyone's satisfaction.
But if you weren't about 100% about doing the full 20 it absolutely made sense. I think in that unit everybody was pretty much 15+.
