Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of taking leave mil leave during an aircraft qual/upgrade etc. at a 121 carrier? Beyond try not to do it that is. I'm considering switching aircraft but my military responsibilities are such that I may need to attend a drill or two during the course. Understand there are impacts if you are going through the training with a sim partner etc. Just interested in hearing stories on how it played out and potential impacts.

Only reason I'd consider going would be if I'm at a critical career juncture, my boss up the chain really cares about attendance, and he's unemployed or a career civil servant with unlimited flexibility to prioritize mil over everything else.
I wouldn't go just to show my face. It's the reserves. Maybe schedule a zoom meeting if you can fit that in. Participate in the usual NIPR email flurry associated with weekend.

If there's a rated officer in the guard/reserve that would balk at one of his pilot guardsman saying 'I just started a new job with an airline. I'll have some training to attend, and won't be able to make the next UTA' ... it's the first I've ever heard of such nonsense.
It might be that the OP is not in a flying billet, or perhaps is a junior enlisted member, and has less wiggle room to be treated like a grownup. It might even be that OP is already on severely thin ice for frequent time-off shenanigans and feels like this next ask might be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Just reschedule; not an excusal, just a reschedule. Its the simplest solution. Upgrade and OE will at most wipe what? 2 months off? So make up your 4 drill days and any other duty (AT, RPA, etc.) Over the next few months. Problem solved.
