Default Guard Vision Requirements

Someone please post the most current vision requirements for pilot applicants to the National Guard. And include any waiver info. I know this changes depending on supply/demand, so I didn't bother to pull up old threads. Thanks guys.

Same as the active duty AF. Last I heard it was 20/70 without a waiver. Check for AF vision standards online. Sorry, I don't wear glasses, that's all I got.

Thats is right, last I heard if the supply of candidates with good eyes is great enough that waivers are unlikely.

Same as active duty. 20/70 and no worse than -1.50 to +2.00 in any meridian without a waiver. Up to 20/200 and no worse than -3.00 to +3.00 in any meridian. The requirements without the waiver are straight out of the reg, the waiver info is just what I was told by a flight Doc.

Who cares bro, just apply and let the flight Doc make the determination. Don't self eliminate, that's why they give you a flight physical. The waiver limits could change daily, you just never know. From personal experience, if one Doc says no, ask another. Eventually someone will give you a chance, that's how I'm still flying in the A.F.

Note: This is for the AIR Guard, I assume the Army Guard has different standards.

If a unit wants you, they can get you.

A Reserve unit I talked to (recently) mentioned that they had a candidate with a DUI on record. I mentioned that I thought a DUI was a deal-breaker, but this unit had been told that they'd get the guy a waiver if the unit wanted him.

Good luck.

Know a dude with two going to a fighter unit...where there is a will, there is a waiver!

The eye thing is a real deal... little room for waivers... certain stipulations apply, but this is one area... reagardless of guard/reserve/active doesnt matter... if you get selected you still have to go to brooks medical faculity in san antonio and have your eyes checked prior to going to pilot training.. it is a last chance check to ensure you meet the qualifications... i have a friend that got there and the got rejected even as a guardsmen... he even went as far as resending papers to washington... so it depends on the problem... and what the parameters are....
