Hey LivinInMEM,
I think recall time will reduce the age to collect retired pay below age 60. From USAF websites:

REDUCED RETIREMENT AGE
Qualifying service:
-- Voluntary active duty (Call or order to active duty under Title 10, U.S.C., Section 12301(d)).

LIMITED PERIOD RECALL PROGRAM (LPRP)
The statutory authority for recall via the LPRP program is Title 10, U.S.C. 12301(d) and officers selected for voluntary recall will be ordered to EAD as outlined in AFI 36-2008.

I guess I'll call ARPC on Tuesday and ask.

Make sure you talk to someone in the know, you may be right, but here is what I found (Air Force Reservists may qualify for early retired pay):

The following time served on active duty is not creditable service for purposes of reducing retired pay age: as a member of the active Guard and Reserve (10 U.S.C. § 12310); on annual tour (10 U.S.C. § 12301(b)); while in captive status (10 U.S.C. § 12301(g)); for medical treatment, medical evaluation for disability purposes or medical study (10 U.S.C. §12301(h)); as a member not assigned to, or participating satisfactorily in, units (10 U.S.C. § 12303); under active-duty agreements (10 U.S.C. § 12311); for disciplinary/courts-martial (10 U.S.C. § 12315); or for muster duty (10 U.S.C. §12319).

The question may be, if you are recalled to AD, are you still considered a member of the Reserve Component while you are performing your duty?

Just got my orders in hand. Started beginning of March. A few rough roads, but overall the process does work.

Congratulations! Progress is good. What was your timeline from Senior Review Panel to SOI to orders?

Also just got my orders a few days back. I am in the Guard and started the application process back at the end of Mar. My package finally made it to AFPC the beginning of May, got my SOI the beginning of August and finally got orders a few days back. Slow process overall but eventually it'll catch up with you. I'm heading to PACOM

I concur with fishalaska's observation.

This is an extraordinarily useful thread and I am glad it is available.

My timeline (shortened version):
24 February - accomplished physical (prior to noon)
7 April - I give up that this is ever going to be signed off by Squadron Commander in Flight Medicine; I submit all other required forms & paperwork to AFPC, including previous, but outdated, 1042. I should have done this 1st.
9 April - AFPC notifies me that they require a current physical
13 April - Attempt second physical at another MTF, but Squadron Commander of Flight Medicine there does not want to confuse Randolph and insists that aforementioned Squadron Commander is about to sign off on the physical.
16 April - current 1042 is finally signed/submitted to MAJCOM for approval
22 April - MAJCOM insists on followup "clarification" and a drug screening test
27 April - physical "clarification" takes 25 seconds
6 May - physical followup paperwork finally transmitted to MAJCOM
5 June - MAJCOM approval occurs on 1042 and forwards it to my MTF
9 June - I am notified to come in and sign off the 1042, which I do; Coincidentally, I am also contacted that day by a unit desiring my expertise for a non-flying position. I never do talk with the assignment officer at AFPC.
16 July - Receive SOI to a different location than negotiated on; found out later that the assignment officer at AFPC loaded in the wrong PAS code!!! Required to submit additional paperwork for aeronautical orders to Langley.
21 July - Langley simultaneously submits paperwork for Air Staff approval & to AFPC so orders can be accomplished.
29 July - Orders are signed at AFPC.
31 July - Receive orders via E-mail in the early afternoon.
3 August - My first travel day to the assignment installation, which is the first day I can be back on active duty.

Bottomline: Allow six months for the process to work from start to finish. If it is closer to four months, you are very lucky; count yourself as fortunate. Submit your paperwork ASAP as a place holder; get the physical as soon as you can. Have patience, you are not being singled out. Good luck!

What happens to you if/when your reserve chain of command won't endorse your package

Few Questions to get me started

Since I just read 51 pages of posts, it's 3AM and my eyes are bleeding I figure instead of going back and trying to decipher, I'll just ask.

Me: VSPed out in late '06, no guard/reserve transition, simply IRR. Have not held a job that requires a clearance so that has expired. Looking at the Permanent recall and I'll figure my options after the first ADSC comes up. Also, looking to go to an AOC.

Question:

Anybody (I think maybe Snacks can answer this) can tell me about getting my security clearance reactivated (I've been out for more than the two year rule)?

Looking at an AOC (I did a 4 month stint at the CAOC with the AMD) what's the life like at an AOC at Ramstein or Yokota?

Thanks!

2 year contract for current and qualed folks?

Anyone out there negotiate for a 2 year contract in an airframe they are current and qualified in? I know the message says training plus 3 but it seems like a good middle ground to settle on 24 months if you're already up to speed and do not have any PCS costs...
Thoughts and experiences?

After 2 years, your clearance dies and you have to start from scratch. They ended up getting the 3AF vice to sign a waiver for me to attend the AOC school (SECRET required). Now that I am at Ramstein, we are starting the paperwork just like I am going for my TS the first time. They will supposedly give me an interim TS after a medical and background check.

Looks like life at the AOC is pretty laid back. Not much going on and the biggest thing seems to be waiting your turn for your 4 month trip to Al-Udied. I think life will continue to be good as long as another baloon doesn't go up. I've been here 2 weeks and I am still in TLF/in-processing.

Go for it!!
