Default Obama Admin Ends F-22 Program

I knew it was only a matter of time before the military was on the chopping block. I also heard the ABL program is gone too.

Well this sucks! Maybe it will allow Lockheed time to develop a 6th gen fighter? Something with lasers would be cool.

Even though Gates says that he "hopes" to ramp up the F-35 program, I think they will come up with another excuse why the program is too expensive and it too will be cut.

Once again please tell me how is this guy our Commander in Chief? Our country sold us out last November. Whatever happens in the future we asked for it. Pathetic.

We don't need fighters anymore.

We have nukes to protect us.

Oh wait, we are getting rid of those also.

To be fair, they are going to reduce the number of nukes, not get rid of them. We have close to 7,500 nukes. There isn't enough land on this earth to even use that many nukes. It is pointless to have that many nukes. Stupid MAD.

I think we can VERY CAREFULLY reduce the number of strategic weapons in our arsenal...as long as we are certain that we retain an absolutely devastating, overwhelming superiority vs. everyone other than the russians. If we can maintain our dominance (and survivable deterrence) with less weapons, so be it.

Every weapon we retain more than the minimum necessary is just one more opportunity for an accident or incident (or for the USAF to lose).

Please keep this thread focused on the military aspects of the cuts or the loss of aviation aspects. Already it has drifted dangerously close to political discussion. There is too much information here to get the thread closed down already.
