Few questions about becoming a reserve pilot
I am currently a furloughed regional pilot, and don't currently plan on going back when I get the phone call, although I do want to fly still. I was toying with the idea of joining the AF or Coast Guard for a while, but I am now thinking that being a Reserve Pilot might work better for me. I live fairly close to McChord AFB where they fly C-17s, and have a BS in Aviation, with about 1500 total time. I don't have any military history (other than being civilian electrician for the Navy) and I learned to fly at an FBO. I hear that the Coast Guard doesn't have reserve pilots, so that is out.
So, the questions for anyone who can answer, are: Is this possible for me to do? Is the competition fierce? What (other than go talk to a recruiter) is the process to do this? Anything else you can tell me about this to help me out? If you need to know more about me to answer these questions, feel free to ask.
